Complete testing of ABS CFT software on Atos BullSequana S800 servers

Atos, the company in the field of digital transformation, and the Center of Financial Technologies (CFT) declared on July 18, 2019 end of the project of large-scale software testing of Automation of bank activity (ABS) of a CFT on serverakhatos BullSequana S800.

In April-May 2019, CFT, together with Atos, conducted large-scale tests of CFT-Bank (2MSA Platform) on BullSequana S800 servers. The main purpose of the testing was to check the performance of the bank information complex ZFT-Bank (2MSA Platform) on Atos equipment with a database of a large multi-branch retail bank. The Data Base contains more than 14 million customers, more than 22 million open deposits, more than 16 million open loans.

The following hardware and software were used in the tests:

  • Database Server - BullSequana S800 8 Intel Xeon Processor 8158 (12 3.0Ghz cores), 1.5TB DDR4, RHEL 7.5, Oracle Database 12c.
  • Application servers - 24 virtual servers with 32vCPU/128GB of memory located on 2 servers BullSequana S800 8 Intel Xeon processors 8176 (28 cores 2 1Ghz), Oracle Linux 7.4 UEK4, Oracle Weblogic Standard Edition 12.2, Oracle JDK 1.8.0_152.
  • Process core CFT-Bank 7.6, version CFT-Bank 18.1, application servers version 2.44.

During the tests, the closing procedure of the operating day (end of month) for the MEDIUM branch group was completed in 70 minutes. The MEDIUM branch group contains more than 6.8mn. customers of individuals, deposits of 11.4 million, loans of 8.4mn.

The test was recognized as successful. Based on the results of testing, CFT recommends the use of Atos BullSequana S800 equipment as database servers and applications for large retail banks using CFT-Bank (2MSA Platform).

The Financial Technology Center announced at the end of 2012 the adoption of ISA Platform 2 (revision 28) as the official standard of the technological core for the CFT-Bank system, provided to credit institutions on outsourcing terms. Version 28 of the ISA Platform 2 provides solutions based on it with even higher performance: a new level of performance, functionality, and responsiveness.

ISA Platform 2 version 28 supports new designs and new capabilities of the SUBDOracle 11g, provides higher data protection and application reliability, which is especially important when deploying applications in the cloud. In the new version of ISA Platform 2, special improvements were made to provide software in the format of "software as a service": the ability to create distributed and multitenant applications.

Together with Monolit Bank, CFT successfully implemented the first project to transfer the already used bank on the terms of outsourcing the CFT-Bank system (Platform 1) to ISA Platform 2, also located on the server equipment of the DPC DPC.

In August 2012, the head office of the Bank in Moscow and the branches of Astrakhan and Nevsky switched to comprehensive outsourcing of CFT-Bank (Platform 1). The system was installed at the server capacities of the CFT data center, the functions of supporting, developing, maintaining the banking information complex were transferred to the CFT. After several months of successful work in the new ABS, the Bank was invited by the CFT to transfer the CFT-Bank system to an even more powerful and productive IT platform - Platform 2 ISA, also located on the server resources of the DPC DPC. Currently, the entire application part of the system used by the bank has been transferred to ISA Platform 2.

The system minimizes the bank's unit costs for maintaining and developing information systems by maximizing the use of economies of scale.

This ABS separates the database layer, application layer, and visualization layer. A system of this scale was created by us first in the Russian market. Currently, most banking systems are two-tier, where the application layer and databases are combined on a single server. The stability of a three-tier system is higher than a two-tier system by separating business logic and database. The distribution of business logic goes to many servers connected by load balancers, and through the use of special technologies. The same server is experiencing upgrade problems. For example, when a bank has an outdated system and the bank starts the process of closing the operating day or some large interest calculation operation, the bank may block the work of users, which creates technological interruptions in service. Usually such operations are carried out by banks at night. But more and more banks are moving to a round-the-clock mode of operation. This happens when the outdated bank system does not cope with the load and is no longer able to process the entire volume of operations in one night, that is, there is not enough time to close the operating day. But these are extreme cases. Problems can occur in different banks on different scales.

History of development

On July 28, 2010, the Financial Technology Center and HP, Intel and I-Teco announced the completion of a joint project to test the ISA 2 CFT Platform, successfully conducted at the HP European Testing Center in Böblingen, Germany.

The result of this test was confirmation of the ability of the CFT-Bank (Platform 2 ISA) system to run on HP Integrity servers based on the Intel Intanium 91x0 (Montvale) and 93x0 (Tukwila) processors running HP-UX 11i.v3. The project was carried out by specialists of CFT , NR and I-Teco.

The main purpose of the testing was to check the capabilities of the bank information complex TsFT-Bank, the HP Integrity Superdome server, with the operating system version HP-UX v11.31 Update 3 DBMS Oracle and version 10g Release 2 on data volumes and with a load corresponding to the loads of a large bank, as well as the successful sizing of the Tsft-Bank platform: selection of the optimal software and hardware configuration Dof DDTTTTTTTO O. This will allow the CFT to recommend optimal system configurations for efficient operation of the company's products in. banks

Testing was carried out by emulating the actual user actions and background processes of the CFT-Bank BIC.

As a result of the tests, the possibility of improving the performance of the ISA Platform 2 database servers with an increase in the number of users and the amount of information processed by transferring the load from the database servers to the application servers was recorded. In addition, using Oracle RAC configuration, it was possible to achieve a proportional reduction in load on cluster host servers compared to using one SMP server. All this will allow banks using CFT software solutions based on the new high-performance technology core and HP Integrity platform to predict and manage the behavior of the system when business volumes grow, increasing performance by adding additional elements to the current configurations of the software and hardware complex.
