The gamma-therapeutic complex "Brachium" is an equipment for contact radiation therapy. The complex is intended for use in radiotherapy departments, specialized oncological treatment, treatment-preventive and research medical institutions.

2022:80% of components in the Brachium complex are domestic

The Brahium complex meets national standards of the Russian Federation. When creating the gamma-therapeutic complex, the modern requirements of the medical oncological community were taken into account and the vast experience of Russian specialists in the use of contact radiation methods was used.

As of the end of December 2022, the device consists of 80% domestic components, work is underway to bring this figure to 100%.

According to Rusatom Healthcare, in terms of its characteristics, the Brahium gamma-therapeutic complex is not inferior to foreign counterparts, but 15-20% cheaper than them. The device uses modern technologies of high-dose brachytherapy, which makes it possible to carry out the treatment procedure with high accuracy of introduction of radiation sources up to 1 mm, and a wide range of applicators provides a full range of clinical applications. At the same time, the developer of medical equipment - JSC NIITFA - has extensive experience in the production of devices for contact radiation therapy (brachytherapy). Thus, the predecessor of Brahium, the AGAT complex has been produced since 1970.

A planning system has been created for the complex, which will ensure the accuracy of radiation direction and complete control of treatment from the development of a therapy plan to the number of sources submitted. And 3D imaging, which was first introduced by NIITFA JSC into the brachytherapy apparatus, will allow you to clarify and adjust the treatment method in real time.

2021: Obtaining a marketing authorization for the Brahium gamma-therapeutic complex

On December 24, 2021, the Research Institute of Technical Physics and Automation (NIITFA JSC), which is part of the management circuit of Rusatom Healthcare JSC (a division that accumulates the expertise of Rosatom State Corporation in the field of health care), received a registration certificate for the Brahium gamma-therapeutic complex. The supply of medical equipment to medical institutions will begin in 2022.

As Natalia Mikhailovna Komarova, General Director of Rusatom Healthcare JSC, noted, the Brahium gamma-therapeutic complex as a whole is distinguished by competitive characteristics and a wide range of solutions to cancer problems.

Gamma-therapeutic complex "Brahium" is intended for complex treatment of oncological diseases of pelvic organs, breast, esophagus, nasopharynx and oral cavity by contact radiation therapy. In brachytherapy, cancer cells are exposed to intense radiation with minimal radiation exposure to surrounding healthy tissues, reducing radiation complications.

According to the standards for equipping the radiotherapy department of the oncological dispensary, at least 180 units of brachytherapy equipment should operate in Russia, while 148 devices are currently installed in the country. The production facilities of the Rusatom Healthcare division will make it possible to fill the shortage of brachytherapy complexes in the Russian Federation and increase the availability of the population to the services of high-quality high-tech oncological care.

The Brahium complex meets national standards of the Russian Federation. When creating the gamma-therapeutic complex, the modern requirements of the medical oncological community were taken into account and the vast experience of Russian specialists gained over several decades of using the contact radiation technique, including on the basis of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "RNTSRR."

The Rusatom Healthcare division begins mass production of medical equipment. The first deliveries of the Brahium gamma-therapeutic complex to medical institutions are scheduled for 2022.
