Volkov Aleksei

An expert in information security management with more than 20 years of experience in IT and information security. For more than 10 years, he has held senior positions in major international and Russian companies, successfully implementing strategies and projects aimed at ensuring the sustainability of digital services and protecting customers.

Alexey graduated from the Cherepovets Military Engineering Institute of Radio Electronics in 2001. In 2013, on the basis of the Academy of Information Systems, he underwent professional retraining for the right to conduct professional activities in the field of information security. In 2017, he received a Master of Business Administration diploma in Chief Security Officer. He has international professional certificates in the field of information security management, personal data security, artificial intelligence and audit of information systems.

Advises the heads of organizations and functional directors on the creation, transformation, assessment and improvement of the efficiency of information security management systems. He teaches author's courses on information security management for managers and students of MBA programs. He actively participates in specialized conferences as a speaker and moderator, is the author of more than 60 articles on various aspects of information security.

2003: Megafon Software Engineer

Alexey's career path began in 2003 as a software engineer at the Megafon mobile operator.

2005: Severstal Information Security Manager

Having joined Severstal Steel Holding as Information Security Manager in 2005, he has completed more than 50 major information security projects and has grown to Head of Information Security Operations over 11 years.

2016: Head of the Department of Cybersecurity Methodology "Sberbank"

In 2016, Alexey moved to Sber as head of the cybersecurity methodology department, where he was responsible for the development of the regulatory framework, risk management, protection of confidential information and the formation of a cybersecurity culture. His team's efforts allowed, in particular, to certify Sber's SOC according to the ISO 27001 standard and implement a cybersecurity risk management system.

Under his leadership, in 2019, the Sberbank ecosystem cybersecurity management system was developed and introduced. Moving to the position of a business partner for ecosystem cybersecurity in 2020, Alexey continued its development, while simultaneously overseeing information security issues in Sberbank projects with the participation of government agencies.

2022: VK Director of Information Security

VK on April 4, 2022 announced the strengthening of the direction of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and communications technologies.

The changes are being carried out as part of the formation of an updated organizational structure and strategy of the company aimed at developing the VK ecosystem and strengthening its position in the Russian market.

The VK team was joined by Vice President, Director of Information Security Aleksei Volkov and Vice President of Communications Alexei Merkutov. Also, Andrei Kalinin was appointed vice president of VK for artificial intelligence technologies.

Aleksei Volkov oversaw the strategic direction of information security for the company: under his leadership, the team creates conditions for increasing user confidence in VK digital services and ensured the company's sustainable operation. Under his leadership, a comprehensive transformation of the information security function was carried out, a single situation center for information security and IT was created, secure development practices were implemented, and a customer security management system was introduced.
