2022: The first phase of smart public transport

On August 15, 2022, MTS PJSC announced the implementation of the first stage of the smart public transport project in Obninsk, Kaluga Region. The company provided ten buses with smart devices and sensors that help improve the safety and comfort of public transport: track speed and location, the behavior of the driver, conductor and passengers using video surveillance, pay for travel on their own, in a contactless way. The buses now have digital displays and screens, as well as voice notification of passengers - they are designed, among other things, for people with disabilities.

Ten comfortable and safe SIMAZ digital buses are already transporting passengers on routes No. 18 and 19 - this is the first batch of smart transport in Obninsk, which MTS has equipped with devices and sensors. And I have already begun work on equipping another 36 large-capacity vehicles - MAZ and NEFAZ.

The digital technologies that MTS has introduced into public transport of the city are designed primarily to improve the safety and comfort of passengers. For example, it is now possible to record whether the driver does not exceed the speed of movement, where the bus is located and whether he exactly adheres to the route using installed tachographs and systems that collect and GPS GLONASS time information automatically record movement parameters in real mode.

In order to track whether the passengers finished disembarking or boarding and whether it is possible to close the cabin doors, MTS installed a video surveillance system on the buses. It will also help prevent conflicts, pickpocketing, vandalism and terrorist attacks. The driver can choose and watch the image from a certain camera on the monitor, and if necessary, use the alarm button - the notification will instantly go to the unified system for monitoring the city's transport. In the event of an accident, recording from CCTV cameras will help assess the actions of the driver, his professional driving skill, the actions of the conductor and identify those responsible for the incident.

In addition, for the comfort of passengers and to reduce the risk of infection with infectious diseases, each of the ten buses now has devices for contactless fare - validators are located on handrails in different parts of the cabin. The digital system correlates the number of passengers who paid for the passage with passenger traffic control data: when entering and exiting buses, special sensors collect information about how many people entered and left the cabin.

For the convenience of passengers, including people with disabilities, MTS has installed audio complexes and digital displays on buses, information text boards that inform about stops simultaneously with voice notification, show the date, time, exchange rate in real time, as well as important messages from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, announcements and social videos.

We create and implement digital technologies just so that they solve painful social problems, simplify our lives, make it safe and comfortable. Get to work on a spacious, clean bus and not be stressed, travel in transport, where you do not need to ask people what is the next stop, send a child by bus to a music school and not worry about his safety - for large megacities this is the norm of life, and for the residents of Obninsk - new and pleasant habits that are already being formed thanks to smart transport, - commented the director of the MTS branch in the Kaluga region Sergey Egoshin.
