2022: Completion of QRate Lab Quantum Key Distribution Training System Installation

The National Research Nuclear University MEPhI announced on November 16, 2022 the completion of the installation of the QRate Lab quantum key distribution training system, which allows training specialists in the field of quantum cryptography. Now students of the educational program "Quantum Engineering" will be able to perform laboratory work on real equipment and conduct scientific research.

Quantum cryptography or quantum key distribution (KPC) is a method of protecting information based on the fundamental laws of quantum physics. CRK systems allow two users to create a common secret key necessary to encrypt and decrypt transmitted messages. At the same time, if in the process of generating a key they try to steal or copy it, the sender and recipient will instantly find out about it and, thus, detect the actions of the interceptor.

In the course of training future specialists, most educational institutions use equipment that simulates real quantum cryptography systems, or in practice work with individual components of quantum key distribution systems. This approach does not always allow you to form the necessary skills for full-fledged work with quantum communication systems: conducting scientific experiments, designing and maintaining quantum networks.

Due to the fact that the educational system works with single photons, and not their imitation, students will be able to solve practical problems at the learning stage: develop systems in the field of quantum communications, propose and implement protocols, integrate quantum key distribution systems into information communication systems.

QRate has been working closely with educational institutions since the company was founded. With NRNU MEPhI, work began back in 2019 with the preparation of tasks for professional skills competitions according to WorldSkills standards in the competence of "Quantum Technologies." Now at the university with schools for working with laser, plasma, radiation and acceleration technologies, strong competencies in information security and artificial intelligence, a whole track on quantum engineering has appeared, students of which will study on current equipment and conduct scientific work in the interests of the entire quantum industry of the country.
