Extending Supported Operating Systems
On December 15, 2023, RuPost (part of PJSC Astra Group) announced the release of an updated version of the RuPost Desktop Universal Email Client.
Since the release of the first public version of RuPost Desktop, which was released in July 2023, a number of additional features have appeared in the product. The key change is to expand the list of supported operating systems. Third-party Linux platforms have been added to Astra Linux and Microsoft Windows. Installation packages are available for them, which can be downloaded from the RuPost website.
Other important changes include color highlighting of individual letters in the flag-marked list. It is in both light and dark interface themes and is used for read letters in both vertical and classic horizontal table views, as well as when displaying search results.
RuPost Desktop includes a revised view of the list of letters in a conversation, including highlighting a collapsed conversation when new letters arrive in it. The mechanisms for showing attachments have been seriously improved. Now the block with their list is immediately under the subject of the letter, and not under its text, as in previous versions. This allows you to quickly view letters and find attached files. By default, all attachments are visible in this block at once. In addition, specifically for compatibility with legacy Microsoft Outlook desktop clients and Exchange servers, this version of RuPost Desktop now includes automatic unpacking of TNEF attachments that look like winmail.dat files in other email clients and Thunderbird. In turn, the content of TNEF messages is automatically retrieved and shown to the user in the required encoding as for a regular message.
RuPost Desktop is not the first product on the Russian market, built on the basis of the open code base Mozilla Thunderbird. However, the initial focus on the current code of the new generation Thunderbird Supernova in the Soft Fork model allowed us to quickly synchronize with the original project code and at the same time build a really convenient and user interface focused on the habits of Outlook users, "said Sergey Orlik, director of research and development at RuPost. - RuPost Desktop develops not only visually, but also "under the hood," with a focus on the needs of corporate users. Expanded support for our RuPost and Microsoft Exchange mail server, many visual extensions and an updated interface for working with attachments and email chains in mail conversations, support for platforms along with Astra Linux, including other Russian Linux-based operating systems. |
Email has always been and remains an important tool for corporate communications. We continue to develop the universal mail client RuPost Desktop and strive to provide our users with convenient, high-performance, reliable and secure software for working with letters, calendar and address book. I would especially like to note the increase in the number of supported operating systems. Many customers move along the import substitution path, switching from foreign operating systems to open ones, primarily to Russian Linux distributions. Many have already implemented platforms, and now they will not have to change them in order to use our product, "said Mikhail Gellerman, CEO of RuPost. |
Launch RuPost Desktop Cross-Platform Email Client
On July 10, 2023, RuPost (part of Astra Group of Companies) announced the launch of a cross-platform mail client RuPost Desktop.
As reported, in 2022, the Astra Group presented, mail server RuPost which for July 2023 is included Unified Register of Russian Programs in and is included in the roadmap. " Employee's Digital Workplace In 2022, since the release of the product, many the Russian companies state and organizations have chosen server RuPost as the basis of their postal infrastructure.
in Import substitution the corporate IT-landschaft shifts from the infrastructure to the basic client component. The company's flagship product OS Astra Linux is one of the platforms for migrating from. operating system Windows
the Russian Linux The Evolution open applications supplied as part of the distributables Thunderbird and functionally solve many of the tasks of working with mail systems and services. However, attempts to adapt and apply them in organizations in some cases face a whole range of problems. The user interface of these solutions is unusual for customers who perceive Outlook as a standard, which negatively affects productivity. The inability to fully work with Microsoft Exchange, which for some time will coexist with Russian mail servers during the migration process, is a real stumbling block for switching to Russian client OS due to the lack of convenient clients for working with corporate mail, calendars, address books and heterogeneous mail servers. Send telemetry to the foreign servers bring additional risks to these applications and their clones.
Given all these facts, the RuPost team has developed a product - the cross-platform mail client RuPost Desktop as a refinement of Thunderbird. The solution provides a comprehensive solution to issues that arise when replacing Outlook with a desktop OS.
The product is based on Thunderbird Supernova; its user interface is redesigned and as close to Outlook as possible, which significantly optimizes the migration process for users. Integration out of the box with Microsoft Exchange allows employees to work comfortably not only with mail, but also with calendars, contacts, corporate address books and Exchange tasks even before switching to the RuPost mail server. told Sergey Orlik, Director of Products and Technologies at RuPost |
Special attention is paid to safe and managed work in the corporate environment: the collection and sending of telemetry abroad is disabled, the Corporate edition of the product includes support for group policies and automation of mass user configuration. Additional policies and automated enterprise profile configuration will facilitate deployment and management of RuPost Desktop Corporate in the working environment.
RuPost Desktop provides integration with the Russian RuPost mail server, connection to any other mail servers that support the standard IMAP, CalDAV, CardDAV protocols. You can also work with Exchange via IMAP and ActiveSync.
The need to replace Microsoft Outlook with domestic solutions has been brewing for a long time. There is such a need not only for employees in the workplace, but also for those users who are used to using desktop mail clients for personal purposes, and not web clients. noted Mikhail Gellerman, CEO of RuPost |
RuPost Desktop is planned to be released in two editions - publicly available, where free downloading and use for personal or working purposes is possible, and corporate RuPost Desktop Corporate, which is scheduled for release in autumn 2023. It is she who will provide an enterprise controlled connection to the organization's mail server. The public version of RuPost Desktop is already available for Astra Linux and Windows platforms, support for macOS and other Linux operating systems will be provided by the end of 2023.
