2026: Production of components for electric buses launched for ₽2,2 billion

Murom Machine-Building Plant launched in the Vladimir region the production of electric portal bridges for electric buses and steering racks with electric amplifiers for Aurus cars. The total investment in the creation of new production exceeded ₽2,2 billion. This was reported by the press service of the Industrial Development Fund on February 3, 2026.

It is clarified that ₽1,75 billion was provided by the Federal Industrial Development Fund in the form of a preferential loan under the special program "Auto Components."

launched the production of components for electric buses for ₽2,2 billion

The site has organized the production of electric portal bridges for Russian electric buses manufactured by KamAZ, Volgabas, LiAZ, Sinara - City Machines. Previously, the main suppliers were manufacturers from Germany and China. The volume of production is more than 200 bridges per year with the possibility of increasing to 3 thousand annually.

The new production building has established the first production of steering straps with electric power for vehicles on the Aurus platform in Russia. Until 2022, they were imported from Germany. Murommashzavod plans to manufacture up to 350 racks per year for Aurus cars.

Manufactured components are made mainly from domestic raw materials and materials. The level of localization of the production of steering racks is 84%, and the bridges - 87%.

According to Aleksandra Sumina, General Director of PO Murommashzavod JSC, the company is adapting the developed steering rails for use in small-tonnage trucks Gazelle NN and Gazelle Next. The company is capable of producing up to 40 thousand steering mechanisms per year. The company is ready to close the entire need for Kamaz, Volgabas and other Russian manufacturers of electric buses in electric portal bridges, as well as adapt them for hybrid and electric freight vehicles.[1]

2023: Obtaining a preferential loan of 1.75 billion rubles from the FRP to launch the production of components for electric buses

The Industrial Development Fund (FRP) provided a preferential loan in the amount of 1.75 billion rubles to the Murom Machine-Building Plant to launch the production of components for electric buses. This became known on December 11, 2023.

According to Kommersant, the total project budget is 2.2 billion rubles. It involves the production of electric port axles, steering racks and tractor transmissions. In the production of components, mainly Russian raw materials will be used, the localization level will be up to 94%, depending on the product. 75 jobs will be created in the new workshop.

Expert Dmitry Babansky from SBS, in a conversation with the newspaper, called electric portal bridges an important component for electric buses and trolleybuses, which converts electric energy into mechanical energy and transmits torque to the wheels. It includes, among other things, an electric motor, inverters and a bearing unit.

Before the imposition of sanctions in 2022, electric buses were equipped with portal bridges of the German ZF. As Autoreview wrote, then bridges of the Chinese brand HanDe began to be installed in the KamAZ electric bus. However, KamAZ, with the involvement of the Bauman Moscow State Technical University, developed its own electric portal bridge for electric buses. It was KamAZ that transferred it "for the production of a pilot industrial batch in Murom," the company told the publication.

The company "Bakulin Motors Group" (brand "Volgabas") said that the group is interested in cooperation with the Murom Machine-Building Plant. The company explained that by December 11, 2023, "technical parameters were agreed and prototypes of electric portal bridges for prototypes of electric buses were ordered," adding that their "tests have not yet been."

According to Dmitry Babansky, the project prospects depend on the production economy and the final cost of the product, since the positive effect of a short logistics shoulder can be offset by a small production volume.[2]
