Exeed car production launches at former Mercedes plant in Moscow region

On June 24, 2024, it became known that the mass production of Exeed cars, a sub-brand of the Chinese auto concern Chery, was launched at the former Mercedes-Benz plant in Esipov near Moscow. The contract assembly will be carried out on the basis of an agreement according to which Avtodom will receive a reward for each assembled car.

According to Interfax, mass production will begin with the Exeed VX model. Shipment of the first batch of these cars is expected in August 2024. One of the sources clarifies that the amount of remuneration is 450-500 euros for each assembled car. The second Exeed model is due to go into production in February 2025.

According to the declaration data, Cheri Avtomobily Rus LLC received declarations of compliance for the Exeed mass-produced TXL and VX models, which will be produced at the former Mercedes-Benz plant, now owned by Avtodom. Avtodom CEO Andrei Olkhovsky noted that the company has several parallel projects for the development of the plant, including cooperation with the Chery group.

The number of partners is significantly larger than the Chery group alone. We are ready to collect under the contract, if necessary, for the Chery group, - said Olkhovsky.

He also added that the plant will simultaneously produce four to six models.

Other companies are also showing interest in the production of Chery cars. The AGR group, which combines the former assets of Hyundai and Volkswagen in Russia, received a declaration for the serial production of Chery cars at the former Volkswagen plant in Kaluga. However, according to Interfax, there are no specific plans for this project yet.

Chery has repeatedly announced the possibility of localizing production in Russia. According to the reporting of Cheri Cars Rus for 2023, the company continues to import cars from, China while simultaneously searching and preparing production sites in Russia. Currently, Chery cars are manufactured at a former factory Nissan St. Petersburg AvtoVAZ in, associated with, but under a different brand and without the participation of Chery.[1]
