2024: VoLTE launch in 23 regions
T2 launched Voice over LTE (VoLTE) technology in 23 regions of presence, in eight of them the service was implemented using the solutions of the Russian developer of the PROTEI Scientific and Technical Center. In affordable areas, VoLTE is already used by more than half of the operator's clients, and voice traffic in the 4G network amounted to 53% of the total "voice." By the end of 2024, the T2 will launch the technology in all regions of its presence. The operator announced this on October 22, 2024.
T2 began a large-scale reversal of technology to the regions in August. In the first month of work, the operator covered VoLTE in two regions, in September - six, in three weeks of October - another 15. During this time, T2 specialists consistently opened access to VoLTE to various groups of clients and conducted tests of the correctness of the technology and charging. The partnership with Protea made it possible to introduce Voice over LTE using components of a domestic manufacturer in eight regions of the operator's presence, including Tomsk, Ulan-Ude, Orenburg, Kurgan, Birobidzhan, Yekaterinburg, Ivanovo and Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug.
In addition to the listed territories, VoLTE has become available in Gorno-Altaysk, Penza, Cheboksary, Kirov, Saratov, Izhevsk, Samara, Yaroslavl, Voronezh, Rostov-on-Don, Yoshkar-Ola, Krasnodar, Maykop, Barnaul and Saransk. As of October 2024, 51% of customers already use the service, while voice traffic in the LTE network covers about 53% of all calls in available regions.
The operator continues to work on the inclusion of VoLTE, it is planned to make the service available in all regions of its presence by the end of 2024.
VoLTE technology allows you to transfer voice calls over a 4G network, while providing continuous Internet connection, fast connection to the called subscriber and high quality voice transmission. A call on VoLTE is charged as normal voice traffic. To use calls to 4G, a client just needs to enable the VoLTE option in the settings of his smartphone, but in some cases the technology starts automatically. Calls in the LTE network do not spend the mobile Internet package included in the tariff. Another important quality is the slow consumption of the battery resource, since the smartphone no longer needs to switch to the 2G/3G standard.
{{quote 'author=said Aleksei Dmitriyev, technical director of T2. | The launch of VoLTE is becoming a logical continuation of all the large-scale work that T2 carried out in 2024. We see this as a step forward and an opportunity for our customers to evaluate the new experience of communication without interrupting the Internet connection. The transition to VoLTE is the next stage in our journey to further develop and improve the quality of communication for our users. In this, we pursue a global goal - to provide subscribers with modern services and opportunities that can become part of their daily life,}}
{{quote 'author=noted Irina Lebedeva, Deputy General Director for Commercial Activities T2. | It is in our interests to meet the requirements of customers. As of October 2024, data traffic consumption is so high that staying without an Internet connection even for a short time in the process of communicating with voice for customers may already seem inconvenient. Together with the technical department, we set a great task - to cover the regions of presence of T2 by the end of the year with VoLTE technology. The growth of service consumption in regions where the service is already available shows that we are moving in the right direction,}}
{{quote 'author=told Vladimir Freinkman, Vice President for Marketing and Business Development of STC PROTEI LLC. | Cooperation with T2 is an important strategic step to increase the country's technological independence and the necessary response to the challenges of the current situation. And this is only part of a large-scale collaboration. The capabilities of Russian developers turned out to be commensurate with the requirements of the Tier1 level operator, which was confirmed by the results of experimental operation. The technical expertise of both parties undoubtedly grew thanks to this project, and subscribers gained access to modern services,}}
