International VoLTE launch in Switzerland, Iceland and Macau
T2 expanded roaming the VoLTE area of operation by three more zones:, and Switzerland Iceland Macau is a special administrative region in the south. The China operator announced this on July 18, 2025. International Vo calls LTE are charged like regular calls in and roaming do not consume transmission packets. In data these countries, it is available to 2,000 rowmers, and in total 72,000 travelers abroad already use the technology. As a result of the launch of VoLTE in roaming, the average call duration increased by 2 times.
T2 is actively developing partnerships with foreign operators to ensure the operation of VoLTE T2 roaming. The T2 's partner in Iceland was Nova, in Switzerland - Sunrise, and in Macau, VoLTE T2 roaming was launched on the CTM network.
72,000 subscribers use international VoLTE as of July 2025. As a result, the call setup time was reduced by 3 times, and the average call duration increased by 2 times.
VoLTE earned in China, Vietnam, Australia and Singapore
T2 signed agreements with ChineseChina Mobile and China Unicom and Vietnamese Viettel operators to operate international VoLTE roaming from T2, as well as expanding 4G network calling capabilities in Australia and Singapore. Calls via VoLTE from abroad are charged under normal roaming conditions and do not consume a data packet. The operator announced this on July 1, 2025.
VoLTE roaming from T2 is also available Russian to tourists in - USA the technology was deployed with a partner operator AT&T several years ago, when the process of closing 2G and 3G frequencies began in the country.
In the United States, Australia and Singapore, T2 implemented VoLTE through a proxy converter, a special program that converts proxy server formats. So, a VoLTE call reaches a partner, is converted and comes to a Russian subscriber in 2G/3G format.
International VoLTE calls are charged like regular calls in and roaming do not consume data packets.
{{quote 'author=said Aleksei Dmitriyev, technical director of T2. | Immediately after the launch of VoLTE in all regions of T2 presence, we began to implement interregional and international VoLTE - for the even greater convenience of our customers. Now calls on the 4G network are unhindered not only within the country, but also outside it. I am confident that our cooperation with foreign partners will expand,}}

Launch of VoLTE technology in all regions of presence
T2 quickly introduced VoLTE technology in all regions of its presence. In three months, the company was able to deploy the service in 69 regions of the Russian Federation, of which in 22 regions - using Russian-made equipment. The 4G network already serves about 55% of T2 voice traffic, and the number of minutes of calls using VoLTE technology has exceeded 9 billion per month. The company announced this on December 13, 2024.
T2 set about turning Voice over LTE technology at the end of summer and in three months was able to implement the service in all regions of its presence. For comparison: the launch of the VoLTE service on the Russian market took operators 2-3 years. The first subscribers who were able to assess the quality of voice on the T2 network were residents of Tomsk, and Magadan became the final region.
To successfully implement VoLTE, T2 has improved the entire voice switching system and packet network elements. This made it possible to significantly increase network performance and provide additional network capacity for the growth of the subscriber base. As of December 2024, more than half of T2 subscribers activated VoLTE technology, and the share of voice traffic served by the LTE network exceeded 55%. At the same time, the monthly volume of VoLTE traffic is 9 billion minutes per month, and the recorded number of such calls in November alone turned out to be above one billion.
The potential availability of VoLTE service for smartphones of the subscriber base is estimated at 98%. In most cases, the technology is activated automatically, in others - you need to confirm the activation manually in the phone settings. LTE calls are charged as regular voice traffic within the connected tariff, there is no separate fee for them.

VoLTE launch in 23 regions
T2 launched Voice over LTE (VoLTE) technology in 23 regions of presence, in eight of them the service was implemented using the solutions of the Russian developer of the PROTEI Scientific and Technical Center. In affordable areas, VoLTE is already used by more than half of the operator's clients, and voice traffic in the 4G network amounted to 53% of the total "voice." By the end of 2024, the T2 will launch the technology in all regions of its presence. The operator announced this on October 22, 2024.
T2 began a large-scale reversal of technology to the regions in August. In the first month of work, the operator covered VoLTE in two regions, in September - six, in three weeks of October - another 15. During this time, T2 specialists consistently opened access to VoLTE to various groups of clients and conducted tests of the correctness of the technology and charging. The partnership with Protea made it possible to introduce Voice over LTE using components of a domestic manufacturer in eight regions of the operator's presence, including Tomsk, Ulan-Ude, Orenburg, Kurgan, Birobidzhan, Yekaterinburg, Ivanovo and Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug.
In addition to the listed territories, VoLTE has become available in Gorno-Altaysk, Penza, Cheboksary, Kirov, Saratov, Izhevsk, Samara, Yaroslavl, Voronezh, Rostov-on-Don, Yoshkar-Ola, Krasnodar, Maykop, Barnaul and Saransk. As of October 2024, 51% of customers already use the service, while voice traffic in the LTE network covers about 53% of all calls in available regions.
The operator continues to work on the inclusion of VoLTE, it is planned to make the service available in all regions of its presence by the end of 2024.
VoLTE technology allows you to transfer voice calls over a 4G network, while providing continuous Internet connection, fast connection to the called subscriber and high quality voice transmission. A call on VoLTE is charged as normal voice traffic. To use calls to 4G, a client just needs to enable the VoLTE option in the settings of his smartphone, but in some cases the technology starts automatically. Calls in the LTE network do not spend the mobile Internet package included in the tariff. Another important quality is the slow consumption of the battery resource, since the smartphone no longer needs to switch to the 2G/3G standard.
{{quote 'author=said Aleksei Dmitriyev, technical director of T2. | The launch of VoLTE is becoming a logical continuation of all the large-scale work that T2 carried out in 2024. We see this as a step forward and an opportunity for our customers to evaluate the new experience of communication without interrupting the Internet connection. The transition to VoLTE is the next stage in our journey to further develop and improve the quality of communication for our users. In this, we pursue a global goal - to provide subscribers with modern services and opportunities that can become part of their daily life,}}
{{quote 'author=noted Irina Lebedeva, Deputy General Director for Commercial Activities T2. | It is in our interests to meet the requirements of customers. As of October 2024, data traffic consumption is so high that staying without an Internet connection even for a short time in the process of communicating with voice for customers may already seem inconvenient. Together with the technical department, we set a great task - to cover the regions of presence of T2 by the end of the year with VoLTE technology. The growth of service consumption in regions where the service is already available shows that we are moving in the right direction,}}
{{quote 'author=told Vladimir Freinkman, Vice President for Marketing and Business Development of STC PROTEI LLC. | Cooperation with T2 is an important strategic step to increase the country's technological independence and the necessary response to the challenges of the current situation. And this is only part of a large-scale collaboration. The capabilities of Russian developers turned out to be commensurate with the requirements of the Tier1 level operator, which was confirmed by the results of experimental operation. The technical expertise of both parties undoubtedly grew thanks to this project, and subscribers gained access to modern services,}}
