SAFU and ASCON launch interdisciplinary project "Digital Shipyard"

2025: Agreement to Establish Educational Programs

February 25, 2025 Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after M.V. Lomonosov (SAFU) ASCON and signed a partnership agreement in the field of engineering personnel training. Its main areas will be the development of new educational programs that ensure a seamless transition of students from study to professional activities, and the implementation of engineering projects in the interests of industrial partners.

For more than 10 years, SAFU has been using ASCON software in the areas of training specialists for shipbuilding, mechanical engineering, industrial and civil engineering. The agreement sets new horizons for cooperation between the university and the engineering software developer, taking into account personnel challenges and the digital transformation of industry.

Among the key joint initiatives is the interdisciplinary project "Digital Shipyard," which will unite students of shipbuilding and construction specialties in working on a digital model of the shipyard and vessel. Using ASCON software solutions, students will learn how to design ships and machine-building equipment, immediately entering them into the dimensions of the shipyard. The integration of the digital model and VR technologies will allow a real-world assessment of the appearance of the designed vessel and its ergonomics. Joint work on digital models will be organized in a single information environment created on the basis of the Pilot: PLM engineering data management system.

Educational programs will also appear in areas related to information technology and automated systems. As part of solving the problem of technological sovereignty, enterprises have increased the need for specialists who know how to work with engineering software at the level of administration, configuration, writing their own applications. SAFU plans to include in IT training application programming for the KOMPAS-3D design system, administration and configuration of the ASCON software package for product lifecycle management.
