In Russia, created a "killer" DSS Nutanix
Russian manufacturer of infrastructure and system SOFTWARE Software announced on May 20, 2025 the launch of its Software-Defined Storage (SDS) system called uStor. The product is already being tested by large customers, and by the end of 2025 the company expects to receive up to several dozen customers.
MIND uStor is infrastructure software that allows you to build fault-tolerant, scalable and productive data storage based on x86 servers running Linux, including domestic distributions. In fact, this is an analogue of Nutanix and VMware Virtual SAN, which allows you to create a distributed storage system for virtualization and containerization platforms.

Anton Gruzdev included offers from cloud.ru, VK tech, Basis, Orion soft, Aerodisk vAir, Cyberprotect (Cyber Infrastructure), SharxDC, Rosplatforma with the R-Storage solution and others among such products. However, these solutions are closed within their ecosystem.
At the same time, uStor is also called unique by its developers because it does not have a clearly dedicated controller that controls the rest of the storage. All nodes are equivalent and self-allocate roles in the system.

Separately, the developers note that the distributed architecture, lack of dependence on specialized equipment and minimal resource consumption allows MIND uStor to demonstrate high performance and resource utilization in hyperconverged scenarios.
In uStor 1.1, which has already been released, support for block storage devices for the Linux operating system is implemented as a block device driver. In addition, there is support for various options for solid-state drives (NVMe, SATA/SAS SSD) and classic (HDD) drives, as well as iSCSI technology. The version received a graphical interface that is designed to simplify DSS management. It also has support for the SNMP network management protocol.
And in the summer, MIND Software plans to release version 1.2, in which support for OpenStack technology will already be available and hyperconverged solutions will be prepared together with partners. A universal client and client connection management will also be developed for the upcoming version.
In the fall, the developers planned the release of version 1.3, in which they expect to implement integration with partners with a containerization platform based on, Kubernetes as well as offer customers the technology of network connection of drives via Ethernet, Fibre Channel or InfiniBand (NVMe-over-Fibre).
By winter, in version 1.4, the developers plan to make a file storage, which can be connected via SMB and NFS protocols with support for pNFS and NFS-over-RDMA. As a result, universal storage should be obtained, which will allow you to implement support for both block devices and the file system hierarchy.

According to the company's engineers, the presented solution based on uStor is intended for organizations that widely use various cloud platforms and virtualization technologies in their infrastructure. The potential to optimize cost of ownership with an SDS solution can range from 30% to 60% compared to traditional DSS by using standard components and fine-tuning the equipment.
MIND Software licenses its products by the amount of "raw" capacity, and the developer offers various licensing options for MIND uStor software both for continuous use and in subscription mode. There are options for supplying Standard and Enterprise (with support for HDD drives), as well as a set of professional services to help customers in design and implementation.
Although the company expects to work directly with large customers, it expects to build a wide partner network. In particular, three types of partners are considered: developers of their own software and hardware complexes, system integrators and cloud providers of IaaS solutions.
