2019: Winners of competition are determined by application development of augmented reality for the Hermitage
On November 6, 2019, organizers - the companies Epson and Ascreen, State Hermitage and also ITMO university - summed up the tender results for young augmented reality application developers AR-Craft. 14 college teams from the leading universities participated in a competition St. Petersburg. Valuable prizes awarded 3 teams of winners.
The awards ceremony of winners of competition of AR-Craft took place on November 6 in General staff of the Hermitage. Participants of tender created applications of augmented reality for work with exhibits of General Staff of the State Hermitage.
Won against the project of a command from the ITMO university under the name "Garden of Sculptures" (the curator – Smolin Artyom) structure: Mukhin Albert, Mustayeva Leysyan, Svyatlovich Ekaterina, Rayevskaya Anastasia. The application of winners allows to look in a new way at exhibits of the hall of the Italian sculpture, transferring them to the blossoming lavender fields of Italy.
2 place - at the Aerarium command from PGUPS (the Curator – Turdiyev Odilzhan): Safiullin Raphael, Dergunov Nikita, Mamedov Tarlan, Abrekov Eldar, Bokov Uluskhan). Silver prize-winners implemented two independent applications for the hall of the Ministry of Finance: the virtual guide and the story about Alexander Column in the Russian and Chinese languages.
The Tim speech win command got "bronze" from ITMO (the Curator – Smolin Artyom), in structure: Mogutova Valeria, Myskina Maria, Kupina Anna, Kostylev Maxim, Sharkova Elizabeth. Within the competitive project children created the virtual guide – a young fox by the name of Tim and also the mobile application quiz for the hall of the Italian sculpture.
Certainly, for us as for the company making augmented rReality glasses it is very important to involve young and talented specialists to software development, opening possibilities of points. A job was got not ideal, but we gave a discount that they were done by students. In my opinion, the staff of the Hermitage showed certain interest in this technology and considers that similar projects have further perspectives, - Artyom Smolin, the curator of the project, ITMO noted. |
The tender AR-craft started on April 15, 2019 and brought together students from six leading highest technical educational institutions of St. Petersburg. Organizers suggested students to create the application of augmented reality for use during the excursions on the State Hermitage together with Epson Moverio BT-350 glasses. The subject of a task was defined by exposures of halls of the Hermitage — developers could create quests for visitors, interactive maps of the museum, the video instruction, the presentation of exhibits, etc.
Participants of winner commands received Epson Moverio video glasses for which AR-applications and also projectors were developed for the home theater and other valuable prizes from Epson. Student's projects were transferred to department of General staff of the Hermitage where they will be able to be used by visitors of the museum. It should attract the younger generation in the Hermitage, open new edges for perception of usual museum pieces.
Epson and Ascreen companies are going to hold a similar competition on an annual basis. Students of other universities will be attracted, to be created new projects for museum spaces.
