2023: The Russian market for career guidance services grew by 17.8% over the year and reached 2.16 billion rubles
At the end of 2023, the volume of the career guidance market in Russia reached 2.16 billion rubles. This is 17.8% more compared to 2022, when 1.84 billion rubles were spent on the relevant services. This is stated in the review of the analytical agency "GuideMarket," published on October 17, 2024.
By career guidance, the authors of the study mean a set of actions to identify a person's tendencies and talents for certain types of professional activities, as well as help in choosing a career path. Career guidance is based on psychology, sociology, economics, philosophy, law and medicine.
The report says that the market in question in the Russian Federation is showing undulating dynamics. In 2019, costs amounted to 1.49 billion rubles with an increase of 7.5% compared to 2018. However, in 2020, there was a 5.9% decline with a final result of 1.41 billion rubles. Many potential customers were forced to postpone receiving services indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, thanks to deferred demand, spending on career guidance services jumped by 24.2%, reaching 1.75 billion rubles. In 2022, an increase of another 5.1% was recorded.
It is noted that the main vector of development in the career guidance market in the Russian Federation is set by the state. The lack of specialists in specific fields, the distortion of the attention of graduates towards "fashionable" specialties and the increase in the country's competitiveness in the field of innovation stimulate the authorities to invest budget money in the professional orientation of children. In general, the unstable dynamics of the market is due to the impact of external factors, such as the economic situation and restrictive measures. The growth of electricity prices, a decrease in the population, insufficient scientific support, devaluation of the ruble, credit policy, etc. have a negative impact. Among the positive factors are digitalization, urbanization and the dynamics of household incomes in 2023-2024.[1]
