Communication on the Maldives

2020: On Maldives the commercial 5G network is started

In the middle of December, 2020 the telecommunication operator Ooredoo started commercial services of a 5G communication on Maldives. Initial deployment of network covered the most part of the capital of Male, including key business centers, hospitals and public places.

The Minister of Communications, science and technologies Mohamed Malikh Jahmal told:

Technologies 5G have the potential for outstanding break in all industries that now and is observed around the world. As the role of connection to the Internet continues to become more and more important for the social and economic growth of the country, deployment of technologies 5G on Maldives creates strong digital infrastructure thanks to which the innovative solutions for improvement of our community can be created.

Ooredoo started commercial services of a 5G communication on Maldives

Najib Khan, the managing director and the CEO of Ooredoo on Maldives, told:

For the last year we saw huge shift towards digital technologies in all industries, including health care, education, communications, management, e-commerce, etc. Despite problems which we faced during a pandemic our command pays priority attention to deployment of services of a 5G, understanding their unprecedented opportunities for disclosure of all power of society with access to a 5G that it is crucial in the modern world.

Ooredoo also announced start of a 5G of AirFibre - service, the first on Maldives, in providing broadband access based on a 5G. Najib Khan noted that the offered service "solves the problems arising when laying fiber optic cables in the overloaded areas, such as Male".

The Ooredoo company also reported that it conducts negotiations with global operators over certification of 5G network for implementation of its support on different devices and in different regions. Meanwhile Ooredoo suggests clients to test in the capital Maldiv new solutions, in particular in the institutions VR Café and Ooredoo Club Premier Lounge.[1][2]
