2024: The data center market in Kazakhstan grew by 9% over the year. Leaders
By the end of 2024, there are a total of 3,775 racks in commercial data centers (data centers) in Kazakhstan. This is 9% more compared to 2023, when the indicator was estimated at 3463 units. The sector is showing steady growth, according to a study by iKS-Consulting, the results of which TAdviser got acquainted with in mid-December 2024.
It is noted that the sector of commercial data centers and cloud services in Kazakhstan is gaining momentum every year. The main factor in the development of the market is the full-scale implementation of the course on the digitalization of all sectors of the country's economy, determined by the government. As a result, the state order is decisive in the revenue structure of data center operators and cloud solution providers. In the V2V segment, the consumption of related services is also increasing.
One of the key features of the Kazakh market is the extremely heterogeneous distribution of data center infrastructure throughout the country with a high concentration of sites in the largest centers of business, social and political activity - the cities of Almaty and Astana. At the same time, in other regions there is a shortage of capacity. Such an imbalance, coupled with moderate indicators of growth in the commercial infrastructure of data centers (200-300 racks per year), according to the authors of the study, suggests that the market in the country is developing primarily due to the orientation of suppliers to existing demand, and not due to its formation and identification by creating a surplus and competitive supply.
At the end of 2023, the leader in the number of racks in Kazakhstan is Kazakhtelecom JSC with 1,522 units, which corresponds to 44.8% of the total. This figure includes the capacities of commercial data centers, as well as the infrastructure of special projects used for state needs and provided according to the data center as a service model. In second place in the ranking is Transtelecom with 851 racks and a share of 24.6%. Rounding out the top three are National Information Technologies (NIT) with 280 racks and 8.1% of the local market. Thus, these companies account for more than three quarters of the commercial data center segment in Kazakhstan.
In the total structure of data center revenues, the combination services accounted for 87.1% in 2023, or 22.13 billion tenge ($42.28 million at the exchange rate as of December 16, 2024). The remaining part of the revenue from infrastructure services was provided by telecommunications and additional services - almost 13%, or 3.27 billion tenge ($6.25 million).
The volume of the infrastructure cloud supply sector in Kazakhstan in 2023, according to iKS-Consulting, amounted to 33.2 billion tenge ($63.43 million), an increase of 69% compared to the previous year. In the revenue structure, 31.04 billion tenge ($59.3 million) accounted for IaaS revenues (infrastructure as a service), and the contribution of PaaS services (platform as a service) amounted to 2.16 billion tenge ($4.12 million). At the end of 2024, the volume of the cloud market reached about 54.6 billion tenge ($104.32 million), which is 64.5% more compared to 2023.
It is noted that the dynamics of the cloud services sector in Kazakhstan is largely determined by the increase in the level of digitalization states and business, which stimulates demand for. outsourcing IT infrastructures For 2021-2023, a number of cloud providers with Russian or other foreign roots have created zones of presence in the country - IT HAIL",,," VK Cloud Yandex Cloud ITGlobal,, Lancloud Servercore, Cloupard, etc. The experience brought by them gave a significant impetus to competition in the Kazakh market and increased the technical and service level of provision of virtual infrastructure services.[1]
