2024: Top trends in 2025
Economic factors and new technologies have the greatest impact on the digital art sector. The latter include, in particular, the means of generative artificial intelligence (GENI). The Creative Bloq review, published on December 15, 2024, highlights ten key trends in digital art.
1. Immersive art
The slump in the film industry has provided visual effects companies with an opportunity to tackle other challenges. There has been a shift to alternative creative directions, such as immersive projects. For example, Dneg and Cinesite opened immersive technology divisions, expanding the scope of Hollywood-quality visual effects to light projection at live events and virtual reality in games, theme parks, etc.
2. New social networks
Creative workers are becoming increasingly disillusioned with traditional social media and looking for options that best meet their professional needs. In particular, the Cara project is gaining popularity - a social network and portfolio platform for artists, art lovers and fans.
3. AI regulation
This includes the introduction of rules governing the use of copyrighted works by artists to teach AI models. The adoption of new legislation will have great consequences for Genia companies.
4. Increasing the maturity of AI
Although AI is changing the way specific tasks are carried out, as of 2024 it is not making structural changes to the overall production process of video and audio materials. Nevertheless, in 2025, the introduction of AI will continue against the background of increasing its maturity.
5. Tax breaks
Visual effects studios (VFXs) are expected to double investment in projects in tax-break regions. An example is Britain, where measures to support creative industries are in place.
6. New Animation Styles
In 2025, according to the authors of the review, the creative revolution in animation based on a mixture of 2D and 3D styles will continue. Such technologies open up new forms of self-expression and allow a balance between the two worlds, while maintaining the expressiveness of 2D and using the depth of 3D.
7. Human-oriented art
Growing resistance to generative AI in the design community will be increasingly reflected in creative work, as artists seek to emphasize the difference between the fruits of their work and the results obtained using neural networks. Therefore, a "sharp turn towards individual, human-oriented design" is expected.
8. Collaboration Platforms
In 2025, collaboration tools and applications are expected to continue to gain popularity as more studios move to the remoteness model.
9. Next-generation AI tools
In 2025, experts believe that AI tools in the field of digital art will become more useful: they will be able to improve workflows, as well as automate certain tasks, such as generating layouts. At the same time, we are not talking about replacing professional artists.
10. New directions of visual art
Retrofuturism, simple linear graphics and more stylized 3D illustration, according to the authors of the study, will become visual trends of 2025. Some of these approaches will be more widely applied in comics, concept art, and fantasy illustrations.[1]
