2025: Project Launch
In early July 2025, it became known that a pilot project "Digital IC" was launched in Russia, providing for the introduction of artificial intelligence, biometric accounting and video analytics for the digitalization of correctional colonies. The project is being implemented on the basis of the IK-6 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Vladimir region.
According to Vladimirsky Vedomosti, the system helps employees ensure security and supervise the regime of convicts on the territory of the correctional institution. Artificial intelligence technologies and IT solutions track prisoner movements, detect suspicious activity and automate control processes.
Deputy Director of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia Sergei Shcherbakov personally got acquainted with the details of the functioning of the system in the Vladimir colony. He noted that the main task is to use modern technical means to improve the safety and reliability of the supervision of convicts while reducing the burden on employees.
The digital complex allows you to automate the processes for monitoring compliance with the convicted legislation and regime requirements. The system also facilitates documentation and video analytics to improve the efficiency of the correctional facility.
Technologies capture the voice and images of faces, providing biometric accounting with the automatic formation of digital profiles of prisoners. This allows you to create a single database for identifying convicts and controlling their movements throughout the colony.
Digital technology helps to track movements on the territory of the correctional institution, promptly identifying suspicious activity among prisoners. The main task of the system is to strengthen the responsiveness to violations and increase the overall level of security.[1]
