Russia entered the top 3 countries in terms of the number of "digital nomads"

At the end of 2022, Russia entered the top three countries, whose citizens most often become participants in digital nomad programs. This is evidenced by the data of the Nomad List service, which accumulates information about the possibilities of remote work in different parts of the planet. The study is published in mid-2023.

According to Kommersant, citing Nomad List statistics, 2.5 million Russians became digital nomads in 2022. Most of the participants in such programs are in the United States (26 million people) and Britain (4 million).

According to the Nomad List survey, the portrait of the average digital nomad looks like this: a 34-year-old lonely white man who works in the IT field and earns about $85 thousand a year. As a rule, the digital nomad stops in one place for up to eight months. Basically, digital nomads are programmers, marketers and representatives of creative professions.

According to analysts, states are trying to attract digital nomads with special visas. This is beneficial for the economy: the specialist does not take away the workplace from the locals, but spends money in this country. Therefore, one of the main restrictions of such a visa is that it does not give permission to work. A digital nomad must earn income outside that state.

The second restriction is related to the amount of income. To make sure a person can support themselves and their family, migration services require income confirmation. Most countries have serious restrictions, for example, in order to obtain a digital nomad visa in Costa Rica, the applicant must receive at least $3 thousand per month. But not everywhere: in Colombia, it is enough to earn $750 a month, and on the island of Curacao - just confirm that a potential digital nomad has customers or an employer.[1]
