2018: Testing of the facial recognition system in the transport of St. Petersburg

On October 1, 2018, it became known that the company Roselectronics and NPO Impulse, which are part of Rostec, began testing the facial recognition system for public transport passengers in St. Petersburg. To this end, bus salons are equipped with 4 video cameras, and in the driver's cab - a DVR and a wireless data transfer device.

The identity of the citizen is identified on the basis of two biometric parameters: the 3D image of the face and the iris of the eye. The verification process itself takes 3-5 seconds. At the same time, the system is able to recognize a person with 100% accuracy even if he changed his appearance with a wig, glasses, beard, etc., as well as with head tilting and natural aging, according to Roselectronics and NPO Impulse.

The function of accounting for the number of passengers entering and leaving the bus is also implemented. In addition to statistical information, it is able to control the opening and closing of doors, which will allow you to abandon special sensors.

The data enters a single repository and can be accessed at the request of law enforcement. Passenger facial recognition system is planned to be integrated with the transport control system, which will allow managing its load.[2]
