2024: Special election
The Extraordinary Elections in France, which ended in July 2024, show that the balance of political forces in the country has not changed much. None of the coalitions managed to gain an absolute majority of votes, and Gabriel Attal remains at the head of the government, whose resignation was not accepted by President Macron.
In a striking way, the right-wing National Rally party and its allies, having received a majority of the popular vote, were in third place (to win, you need to gain a majority in each of the districts, which they failed).

2023: France bans children from social media without parental permission
In late June 2023, in France, the Senate approved legislation requiring social media platforms such as TikTok to check the age of users and obtain parental consent for those under 15.
The French authorities have resorted to this conclusion in order to protect the smallest members of society from threats related to the use of social networks, namely insults, bullying and inappropriate content on [[Internet|internet. And also to keep parents up to date with what their children see and do, the French Parliament has mandated platforms like Instagram, TikTok and Snapchat, confirm the age of all users, and also obliged everyone under the age of 15 to require parental consent before registering a profile.
The new law was passed on June 29, 2023 in the Senate, and the day before the National Assembly gave it the green light. However, the date of entry into force of the law has not yet been determined and will be established by decree after the European Commission (EC) decides on its compliance with other EU laws. After the law passes through the EC, social networks will have one year to bring it into line and make the changes necessary for any new registrations. Parental consent must also be obtained for accounts already held by children under 15, but this will not take effect until two years after the law comes into force.
Any non-compliance with the law by social media platforms will be punished with sanctions and a fine of up to 1% of the company's global turnover. When passing the law, the Senate took into account the risks for young people on the Internet - from pornography to cyberstalking, unattainable standards of beauty and addiction. In France, sites are theoretically closed to people under the age of 13. But more than half of children aged 10 to 14 use social media, according to France's National Commission on Technology and Freedoms (CNIL[1]

Painting
1875: Jean-Léon Jerome "The Pool in the Harem"
Harem in Islamic society meant a forbidden part of the house intended for women. Impressed by the trips to the Middle East, Jean-Leon Jerome chose the theme of his picture as the scene in the harem, when a black servant offers hookahs to two white concubines of the Sultan by the pool in a Turkish bath.
Jerome, as a representative of European pictorial art, paid great attention to the image of female nudity and in general the beauty of the human body, which contradicted Islamic traditions, while the artist was not a witness to this scene, and could not become.
The painting, painted in 1875 by order of Grand Duke Alexander Alexandrovich (future Russian Emperor Alexander III), was exhibited at the Paris Salon and was even used in an advertisement for whiskey, which caused criticism, but now from Christians because of its sexual connotations.
For some time, the canvas was stored in the Anichkov Palace, but during the nationalization of 1918 it entered the State Hermitage Museum, where it was exhibited in subsequent years.
In 2001, the painting was stolen from the Hermitage by an unknown person who cut it from a subframe. For several years, the work was considered lost, but in 2006 it was transferred anonymously to the State Duma.
After restoration, which took four years due to the poor condition of the canvas, in 2009 the painting returned to the permanent exhibition of the Hermitage, while its abduction remained undisclosed.
1866: Jean-Léon Jerome "Slave Market"
The plot of the picture is built around the choice of a concubine in the Arab market. Jerome visited the Middle East several times, and was well aware that the official slave trade in the Ottoman Empire during the Tanzimat period was seriously limited, including under pressure from the European allies of the Turks.
Jean-Léon Jérôme's plot of a female slave appeared in a specific social context, when the artist was constantly available in the workshop of a female model. Paintings of this topic introduced a scandalous note into the work of Jean-Leon Jerome, which contributed to an increase in the artist's fame.
