2022: Attendance at Moscow museums increased to 16.7 million people
In 2022, museums in Moscow were visited by about 16.7 million people, which was the highest figure in 30 years. This was announced in mid-February 2023 by the deputy mayor of the capital Natalya Sergunina.
The previous record was set before the COVID-19 pandemic, in 2019, when 15.3 million residents and guests of Moscow got acquainted with expositions and exhibitions. During the spread of coronavirus infection, attendance decreased to 7.7 million people. In 2022, it was possible not only to return to the previous results, but also to surpass them.
According to Sergunina, in 2022 the most visited was the Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve, which attracted more than 2 million people. Among the leaders are also Kolomenskoye, Ostankino and Kuskovo, Darwin Museum, etc. Almost 1.5 million people in 2022 took part in the city educational action "Moscow Museum Week," which is held monthly throughout the year.
Popular citywide projects also included the "Night at the Museum" campaign. In the spring of 2022, 360 thousand people joined it, who took part in more than 230 events - classical music concerts, exhibitions, performances, lectures on history and art.
Every year from April to May, the capital hosts the program "Days of the Historical and Cultural Heritage of Moscow." In 2022, more than 470 excursions and quests took place, thanks to which almost 400 thousand citizens and tourists got acquainted with architectural monuments.
In 2022, new exhibition sites appeared, for example, in the pavilion of VDNKh "Geology" there is a permanent exposition "12 signs of living," the creation of which was timed to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the founding of the State Biological Museum named after K.A. Timiryazev. The Pinnipeds Pavilion has opened in the Moscow Zoo, and the entrance from the Barrikadnaya metro station and a pedestrian crossing from the old to the new territory have also been equipped there.[1]
