2023: The volume of the Russian organic food market for the year reached 27.6 billion rubles
In August 2024, it became known that the volume of the Russian organic food market for 2023 reached ₽27,6 billion. According to Roskachestvo, of this volume of certified organic products, only ₽16 billion.
According to Roskachestvo, in Russia, the certification system for organic products, introduced in 2020, continues to develop actively. Since the launch of this system, certification bodies have issued 477 certificates, but to date (August 2024) only 306 of them are valid. Eight bodies engaged in certification of organic production are accredited in Russia, which confirms a high level of standardization and control over the quality of products entering the market.
According to Finmarket, from September 1, 2024, new requirements come into force that oblige manufacturers wishing to use the terms "biodynamic," "biological," "ecological," "environmentally friendly," "green," as well as the designations "eco" and "bio," to undergo mandatory certification. Violation of these requirements can lead to significant fines in the amount of ₽100 thousand to ₽500 thousand.
According to the rating of regions compiled by Roskachestvo, the leaders in the number of certified organic producers are the Voronezh Region, Krasnodar Territory and Moscow Region, where 17, 12 and 11 producers are registered, respectively.
In 2023, the Russian government approved a strategy for the development of organic production until 2030. The main scenario involves an increase in the volume of organic products up to ₽114,5 billion. It is also planned to significantly reduce the share of imports in the market - from 63% in 2021 to 24% by 2030.[1]
