History
- Finmarket was founded in 1994.
- In 2007, the Interfax group bought the company from its founder Alexander Burmistrov. The transaction amount, according to various estimates, ranged from $3.5 million to $7 million.
- In August 2012, it became known that Finmarket, which is part of Interfax, will become a full-fledged online newspaper in the fall of 2012. This was reported by Izvestia with reference to the head of the Interfax Internet project service Yuri Pogorely.
As explained by Pogorely, the Internet newspaper will retain the "unique digital platform," which is the basis of Finmarket. Analytical materials and forecasts for the market will be added to the news, expert opinions and small articles. "The news agency will become an online newspaper that will talk not only about what is happening now, but will also tell what will happen tomorrow," added the Burnt[1].
Pogorely explained the need to create a full-fledged online newspaper on the basis of the agency by the fact that the niche of economic online publications with analytics remains free.
- March 19, 2014 after Izvestia reported the closure of Finmarket (published at 13.53 Moscow time), the editors of the site finmarket.ru published (at 17.36 Moscow time) an explanation of the changes taking place within the agency. After about an hour, it was removed from the agency's website (Izvestia retained screenshots of the announcement).
This message from the editorial office stated that in the near future Interfax plans to carry out a large-scale restructuring and reductions in several of its divisions. "This is due both to the situation in the Russian media and in the advertising market, and to the peculiarities of the business of the group itself," the publication said. —... we know that the group was forced to make adjustments to the editorial policy of the Interfax.ru website related to the current political situation in Russia. "
"In its current form, the site finmarket.ru ceases to work on April 1 this year. New notes, analytical materials, interviews and columns after this date will not be published on the site. The chief editor of the agency, the chief editor of the site, three correspondents and the editor of special projects will be fired to reduce staff, "the editors of the site said.
The letter also confirmed that, "in fact, we are talking about the termination of the finmarket.ru website as a full-fledged Internet media devoted to topical issues of the Russian and world economy." "We hope that in other media and at other times we will still have a chance to meet," the authors of the message say goodbye.
