Global Synthetic and Artificial Yarn Market Growth by 3% to 3.41 Mt

The volume of sales of synthetic and artificial yarns in the world increased by 3% in 2024 compared to 2023. The figure increased from 3.3 million tons to 3.41 million tons. The market is showing a recovery from a period of stagnation in 2022-2023. The global textile industry is undergoing a major transformation with increasing demand for synthetic materials. This is evidenced by the data of the "Analysis of the global market of synthetic and artificial yarn," prepared by BusinesStat in 2025.

As follows from the BusinesStat report, market dynamics over a five-year period show uneven development. In 2020, sales amounted to 3.24 million tons of synthetic and artificial yarn. The 2021 figure reached 3.33 million tons with an increase of 3% compared to the previous period. The recovery from the coronavirus pandemic has stimulated demand for textile products. Sales in 2022 decreased to 3.30 million tons. The 1% drop reflected a slowdown in the global economy and a decline in consumer demand.

The market stabilized in 2023 at 3.30 million tons, unchanged from the previous year. Stagnation continued for two consecutive years. In 2024, sales grew by 3% and reached 3.41 million tons. The resumption of growth indicates a recovery in demand from the textile industry. The indicator of 2024 became the maximum for the entire analyzed period from 2020.

Demand trends are shifting towards fabric sustainability and versatility. Consumers are increasingly choosing synthetic and artificial yarn materials as alternatives to traditional textiles. The attention of the world community to environmental problems is increasing. The drive to reduce the carbon footprint of textile production is driving innovation. Demand for recycled polyester has grown in recent years. The material is often the product of plastic bottle recycling.[1]

Global Tissue Market Growth by 3.9% to 135 BCM

Global fabric production in 2024 increased by 3.9% compared to 2023 and amounted to 135 billion square meters against 130 billion square meters. m a year earlier. The industry has shown steady growth for five years in a row, increasing its total output from 118 billion square meters. m in 2020. This is evidenced by data from the BusinesStat study, published in early September 2025.

For the period from 2020 to 2024, the total growth in global fabric production amounted to 15%. The dynamics show the progressive development of the industry: in 2021, the volume of production reached 122 billion square meters. m, which meant an increase of 3.3%. In 2022, the figure increased to 125 billion square meters. m with a growth rate of 2.9%, and in 2023 amounted to 130 billion square meters. m with an increase of 3.7%.

The segment of synthetic and artificial fabrics is developing most actively, the production of which during the analyzed period increased by 21%. The advantages of such materials are the relatively low cost, the manufacturability of production processes and the versatility of applications in various industries.

The use of synthetic fibers allows manufacturers to reduce dependence on external factors compared to natural materials made of cotton or linen. Plant crops have specific requirements for climatic conditions and are particularly susceptible to the negative effects of weather changes, including droughts and other natural events.

The cost of fabrics made of natural materials exceeds the same indicator for synthetic analogues. Despite the growing popularity of environmental trends in the textile industry, the economic component remains a determining factor for many consumers and manufacturers.[2]

2023: Global Wool Fabric Market Size Grows 23.7% to 561.2 Million in 3 Years

From 2021 to 2023, sales of woolen fabrics on a global scale increased by 23.7%, reaching 561.2 million square meters. One of the factors of growth is the increase in the world's population. This is stated in a study by BusinesStat, the results of which were released in mid-August 2024.

According to estimates, in 2019, 503.7 million square meters of woolen fabrics were sold in the world. In 2020, a decline of 10% followed - to 453.6 million square meters. The industry was negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, which provoked disruptions in the global supply chain, combined with a decrease in manufacturing activity.

In 2021, the market began to recover: the increase was 11.8% - up to 507.2 million square meters. In 2022, an increase of 7.7% was recorded - to 546.5 million square meters, and in 2023 - by another 2.7%. The positive dynamics is due to the growing popularity of products made of natural fabrics by people who care about the environment and their own comfort. At the same time, the number of such consumers is increasing annually - especially rapidly in developed countries. In turn, the high cost of wool fabrics compared to synthetic fabrics prevents more active market expansion.

In 2023, the largest consumer of woolen fabrics on a global scale was, China where almost 94 million square meters of products were used, which corresponds to 16.7% of global sales. In the second position is Italy with an indicator of 74.3 million square meters, or 13.2%. Closes the top three, Cambodia where 30.1 million square meters of woolen fabrics were consumed, or 5.4% of global sales. The study highlights Cambodia's garment industry as the backbone of its economy. For[3]
