2024

Tourist flow of Russians to Turkey increased by 6.28% to 6.7 million people

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey recorded an increase in the number of trips of Russian citizens to the country by 6.28% to 6.71 million visits in 2024. This is evidenced by the data of the department, published in early February 2025.

According to Association of Tour Operators Russia the data, the structure of the tourist flow has changed significantly compared to 2019. The share Istanbul rose from 10.3% to 29.3%, while the combined share of beach destinations fell to 64.4%.

Antalya Resorts in 2024 accounted for 3.91 million trips of Russians, which is 58.3% of the total tourist flow. The maximum increase in attendance in the region was recorded in May, September and October, which indicates the preference for tourists to travel in the offseason.

The Aegean coast of Turkey was visited by 410.68 thousand Russian tourists, which is 4.8% more than in 2023. The region has seen a redistribution of flow in favor of more affordable destinations - 58% of tourists chose Dalaman instead of the traditionally popular Bodrum.

Istanbul received about 2 million Russian travelers, maintaining the indicators of 2023. A significant part of this flow is due to the use of the city as a transit point for trips to third countries.

In the seasonal structure of trips, there is a shift in peak activity. If in 2023 the maximum visits to Antalya occurred in July, then in 2024 the region visited the largest number of tourists in September.

Other regions of Turkey, including Izmir, Mersin, Adana and Black Sea ports, accounted for about 7% of the total number of trips of Russians. In absolute terms, this is approximately 469.7 thousand visits.

As noted in ATOR, one of the strategies of Russians is to choose relatively cheaper, compared to Bodrum, Fethiye and Olyudeniz (arrival in Dalaman). According to statistics from the province of Mugla, 58% of all Russian tourists in this province (238,254 tourists) arrived in Dalaman in 2024, and only 40% (165,582) arrived in Bodrum. In 2024, the directions showed similar growth dynamics (+ 5.7% and + 5.4%, respectively).
