2022: Launch of 3D production of hip prostheses for animals in Zelenograd

In the center of prototyping, "Scat 3D" began to print orthopedic measurements. These are special drills that are used in complex hip replacement operations in animals. In addition, hip endoprostheses began to be printed, the production is still piece, according to the website of the mayor of Moscow on October 6, 2022.

Implants are made of high-strength steel. They are used as samples for training veterinary surgeons. Skat 3D intends to launch mass production of steel rims and titanium endoprostheses by the end of 2022.

{{quote 'Restrictions on the supply of foreign bone implants for animals and tools for complex operations have increased the demand for 3D scanning and 3D printing services. Moscow supports the development of additive technologies (the creation of solid three-dimensional objects based on a digital model) and their introduction in various industries, including veterinary medicine, - said the head of the Department of Entrepreneurship and Innovative Development of Moscow Alexey Fursin. }} He added that thanks to 3D printing, it is possible to make individual implants and accessories for individual order. 3D-printed products are not inferior in quality to products made on industrial equipment and are cheaper.

By October 2022, there are over 30 engineering centers in Moscow, which are based on the additive production of standard and non-standard products from polyamide, plastic, metal, photopolymer. The advantage of such technologies is the in-house production of equipment and all components.

{{quote 'The development of the use of 3D printing is of great importance for the metropolitan industry. This direction will help enterprises not only speed up import substitution processes, but also find local alternative suppliers, "said Vladislav Ovchinsky, head of the Investment and Industrial Policy Department[1] }}
