Start of public sector electronics production at former Samsung plant

In September 2024, Graviton launched the assembly of monitors for the public sector on the territory of the former Samsung plant in the Kaluga region. Production facilities were sublet to the company, and they are planned to produce significant volumes of electronics for the needs of the public sector.

According to Kommersant, Graviton has begun assembling monitors and printed circuit boards to control them at the production facilities of the South Korean company located in Kaluga. The first trial batch of 1,000 monitors has already been released, and by the end of the first quarter of 2025, 60 thousand units of products will be produced. Monitors are produced with a diagonal of 24 and 27 inches, their cost starts from ₽10 thousand. The company noted that all products are aimed at government customers, but details about partners or the volume of investments were not disclosed.

Graviton
began production of electronics for the public sector in Kaluga

The production site where Graviton collects electronics was previously owned by Samsung and used to produce TVs, washing machines and refrigerators. However, after the start of a special military operation in Ukraine, the South Korean company froze the supply of its products to Russia. In 2024, the plant was leased to the Russian distributor VVP Group, which then subleased it to Graviton.

Despite the current use of the plant, lawyers believe that Samsung may face the risk of secondary sanctions from the United States and the EU if it is proved that the products produced at the plant are used for the needs of the Russian public sector. As lawyer Vladimir Abramov noted, in order to exclude such risks, Samsung may finally sell its assets in Russia.

The area of the Samsung plant in Kaluga is 465 thousand square meters. m, and before the shutdown of the enterprise in 2022, about 1 thousand people worked on it.[1]

Graviton expands production and prepares a new server "sharpened" specifically for AI

In 2025, Graviton (part of the 3Logic Group) expects to increase the number of contract sites used for the production of equipment from 17 to 20, Ilya Chaplinsky, Marketing Director of Graviton, said at a meeting with the press in early September. The current assembly capacity of Graviton is 300 thousand client devices per year and up to 20 thousand units of server equipment. The company does not specify how much it plans to increase the capacity due to new partner platforms. Graviton told TAdviser that by increasing the number of contract industries, they are increasing, first of all, "the flexibility and efficiency of customization."

The company's products are focused mainly on customers who need domestic equipment from the register of the Ministry of Industry and Trade . For servers, in particular, she has the task in 2024 to reach a share of 7% of the registry equipment market.

Graviton is not present on the commercial market, because production in Russia at cost is unprofitable different from production in Asia, said Ilya Chaplinsky. In direct competition, it loses in price to Asian competitors: in a typical configuration, the final price of a Russian product comes out about 20-25% more expensive than an Asian one.

Under the Graviton brand, equipment is produced that is primarily aimed at customers who need products from the register

Graviton does not plan to develop its own production yet. The company's business strategy is such as to invest in the development of its products, but to focus on partner production, because maintaining its own constantly updated factory corresponding to the latest technology is a big challenge. The speed of technology development is such that such a plant must be rebuilt every three years. This is a big burden on the business model, on the investment plan, Ilya Chaplinsky explained.

Among the areas of development of new products are servers designed for artificial intelligence tasks. Video cards used for AI tasks can also be installed in existing Graviton computer models, but a modular server model in the 2U form factor, which will be "sharpened" specifically for AI tasks, is on the way, said Alexander Filchenkov, director of the Graviton server and network systems department, answering TAdviser questions. 4 accelerators will be installed at the front of this server.

As of early September 2024, this model is being tested. Samples are planned to be shown to customers at the end of January 2025. This is due to the fact that the company is immediately focused on the new generation of Intel processors, which is not yet sold in Russia, "but for which everything has already been developed with us."

In general, regarding video cards, the company checks the work with everything that is available on the market. For the most part, customers prefer to work with NVidia video cards, which is familiar to them, plus there is a code technology for it, under which a huge number of drivers are written. At the same time, Graviton has at least five Chinese manufacturers of adapters that "do not reach Nvidia," but in general, they can work as an alternative.

There are also two Russian companies that develop products of this class, but their products have limited functionality and are more used for models related to video analytics, says Alexander Filchenkov. The first of them is the NTC "Module," with which Graviton has been working for more than 3 years, and their products are 100% certified with all Graviton servers.

Also, the company, IVA known primarily for its solutions for, presented its developments in this area. video conferencings Now she has developed her dedicated computing accelerator, which is based on working with. neuronets So far, this product is not in the registry, because it is not designed on a Russian microcontroller. And at the STC "Module" - on the Russian microcontroller.

Alexander Filchenkov notes that these products differ from NVidia "roughly like Ferrari and 'Zhiguli' at the same cost." They are in demand, first of all, where there are requirements for critical information infrastructure.

Alexander Filchenkov also believes that by 2030 it is impossible to fulfill programs involving the complete transition of government agencies and key enterprises of the Russian Federation to domestic software and equipment. More precisely, formally this will be carried out, but the question is that the equipment will be Russian. Even if you take a simple passive board, now there is nothing in it except the case that can be produced in Russia, he explains: "None of these elements of the size we need at the level of microelectronics in Russia can be done."

At the same time, Graviton now equips almost all of its equipment with those and other domestic components, including RAM modules, solid-state drives, cable products, etc. But even a plastic connector for a cable so that it does not break and can work for five years with overheating cannot be done, because in Russia the required number of connectors, even if you take into account all customers, is economically unprofitable: it will be about 20 times more expensive than produced in China.

Also in Russia, there is still no even "normal metal processing" necessary for the production of computer cases, so Graviton does not use domestic cases for servers, Alexander Filchenkov explained.

Rental of an additional warehouse in the Kholmogory industrial park in the Moscow region

3Logic Group is expanding its storage space by 36,000 square meters. m. The total area of the premises will be 66,000 square meters. m. The warehouse expansion ensures that customers have equipment that can be shipped on demand. The company announced this on July 18, 2024.

In 2023, the number of SKUs in the 3Logic Group portfolio grew by 57%. To provide high-quality service and continue to increase sales volumes, the company leases an additional warehouse in the Kholmogory industrial park in the Moscow region. There is also the main warehouse of the company with an area of 20,000 square meters. m, an additional warehouse of 10,000 square meters. m is still located in Sergiev Posad.

The warehouse area is 36,000 square meters. m. An automated warehouse management system (WMS) will be implemented in the warehouse, due to which the performance of warehouse operations will increase by 20%, and the order stay in the system will be reduced by 15%.
