2017: Kaspersky Lab and AVL will be engaged in development of protection for "smart" cars
Kaspersky Lab and AVL company combine efforts for the purpose of ensuring cyber security of the "smart" automobile systems of new generation. The corresponding agreement on cooperation was signed on June 1 in Regensburg by the chairman of the board of directors and the CEO of AVL Helmut List and the sales director of Kaspersky Lab Alexander Moiseyev.
As told CNews in Kaspersky Lab, within this partnership of the company are going to work on creation of the software solution which will provide safe connection of both the car, and its components with external cloud or network infrastructure and will exclude a possibility of unauthorized intervention in these processes. In addition, Kaspersky Lab and AVL will offer methods of integration of advanced technologies and methods of cyber defense in the built-in automobile systems and also will develop a set of trainings and educational programs for safety of modern cars.
One of the main results of cooperation will become creation of the flexible IT platform which will allow car makers to implement the module of safe connection (Secure Communication Unit/SCU) in machines, using the program and hardware components provided by the production technology. Such complete solution not only will give to the automobile industry necessary technologies of protection, but also will help to develop new concepts of reflection of cyberthreats — as a result all this will allow to think over safety of cars at a stage of their design and production. Kaspersky Lab and AVL are going to provide a prototype of the new SCU solution in September of the current year.
"Experts of Kaspersky Lab study vulnerabilities of smart cars for a long time and investigate all variety of the cyberthreats constituting danger to the autoindustry and car owners. We are sure that consolidation of efforts and knowledge of the security guard experts and car makers — the only efficient way to ensure safety of an ecosystem of smart machines. Our partnership with AVL — an important step in this direction which will help to develop new methods and technologies of protection of all connections of the car both with internal, and with external infrastructure" — Alexander Moiseyev, the sales director of Kaspersky Lab commented on an event.
"AVL pays much attention to security and reliability of communication channels between the car and the infrastructure surrounding it. Our cooperation with Kaspersky Lab will help us to implement complex approach to ensuring protection of the automobile systems and to become one of the leading partners in the field of transport security" — Georg Schwab, the managing director of AVL company explained.
