The Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare has put into operation a new laboratory and scientific complex "Anti-Plague Station of Rospotrebnadzor" in Simferopol worth ₽2,6 billion under the federal program "Sanitary Shield." The object with an area of almost 10 thousand square meters will become a key link in monitoring the epidemiological situation in the Republic of Crimea, Kherson and Zaporizhzhya regions, and its staff will be 94 specialists. This was reported by "Crimean newspaper" on September 16, 2025.
The construction of the complex lasted two years using exclusively domestic construction and finishing materials. About half of the materials were produced directly on the peninsula, which provided support to local industry and reduced logistics costs.
The opening ceremony was held in a format video conference with the participation of the president as part Russia Vladimir Putin of the celebration of the Day of Workers of the Sanitary and Epidemiological Service. Putin stressed that Russia has created a unique system of sanitary and epidemiological control, recognized as one of the most advanced in the world.
The head of Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov, noted that the implementation of the project was made possible thanks to federal funding. He stressed the importance of creating a full-fledged scientific institution equipped with high-tech equipment to strengthen the region's biological safety potential.
Aksyonov recalled the experience accumulated over 11 years to eliminate the consequences of almost 90 emergencies of various levels in the territory of Crimea. According to him, this experience has shown the importance of coordinated actions of Rospotrebnadzor and state authorities of the republic.
Natalya Penkovskaya, head of Rospotrebnadzor for the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol, announced a significant increase in the region's capabilities in the field of epidemiological control. The laboratory capacity of the complex will triple the monitoring density and significantly reduce the time for obtaining research results.[1]
