Beshtau built the second radio electronics plant in Rostov-on-Don

The Beshtau group of companies is completing the construction of the second plant for the production of electronic equipment in Rostov-on-Don, said Vladimir Kuznetsov, co-founder of the company, at the end of September 2024. The launch of the new enterprise is scheduled for the end of October 2024 - the beginning of November 2024, which is significantly ahead of the initial deadlines set by the regional government for 2025.

According to RBC, the construction of the plant began in August 2023. Production facilities are already ready, and the company is engaged in the installation of equipment and connection to power grids. Vladimir Kuznetsov notes that all preparatory work is planned to be completed within a month.

Electronics manufacturing

The new Beshtau plant in Rostov-on-Don will produce a wide range of electronic products, including laptops and server equipment. Particular attention is planned to be paid to increasing the production of printed circuit boards. The company relies on the versatility of production lines, which will make it possible to produce a variety of products at limited capacities.

Beshtau Group has about 150 products, including computer mice, keyboards, monitors, system units, laptops and server equipment. All products of the company are registered in the register of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia.

In addition to the new plant in Rostov-on-Don, Beshtau plans to launch a new production building at its enterprise in Essentuki by the end of 2024. These steps are part of a large-scale development strategy for the company, which plans to open 12 production facilities in southern Russia.

An important stage in the implementation of this strategy was the registration of the cluster of the radio-electronic industry created by Beshtau Group of Companies in the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia in June 2024.[1]

Start-up of PCB production using mainly domestic raw materials and technologies

In September 2024, Beshtau began producing printed circuit boards using mainly domestic raw materials and technologies.

The new line for the production of boards will allow the company to produce up to 18 square meters. m of products per shift, and after modernization in the coming months, production volumes will be increased to 36 square meters. m per shift.

According to Oleg Osipov, founder of the Beshtau group of companies, the company plans to further expand production, including by launching a new line, which will allow it to reach a higher level of complexity in the manufacture of boards. For September 2024, Beshtau produces 4-5 complexity class boards, but in a year it is planned to produce 6 class boards. However, for more complex products with a number of layers from 10 to 12, the company is still forced to purchase products abroad. In the future, the company intends to completely switch to the use of Russian boards in production, which will be an important step for the domestic electronic industry.

The Beshtau group of companies is developing a cluster of electronic industry in southern Russia, which includes nine companies from the Rostov region, Stavropol and Krasnodar territories. The company is also actively investing in new technologies. In addition, it invests in the development and production of microprocessors, the housing of which will be carried out using imported cores.

In addition, Oleg Osipov stressed the importance of developing Russian technologies in the field of electronics, especially in the context of current global trends and sanctions restrictions.

{{quote 'We understand that independence from foreign components will be an important factor in the future development of the industry. During the year, we plan to completely switch to Russian printed circuit boards for all our devices, as well as offer our products to other enterprises of the radio-electronic industry, - he said[2] }}

Announcement of investment 2.1 billion rubles

On July 8, 2024, Beshtau announced its intention to invest more than 2 billion rubles in the production of microcontrollers in Rostov-on-Don. We are talking about products that are used in automatically controlled devices, such as automotive engine control systems, implantable medical devices, remote controls, office machines, household appliances, power tools, UAVs, and so on.

The agreement was signed between Beshtau and the authorities of the Rostov region. It is planned to produce Beshtau 1001V1 microcontrollers, which are made on the RISC architecture. It is argued that these products replace foreign analogues and are largely superior in terms of technical characteristics.

It is expected that investments in the project will amount to approximately 2.1 billion rubles. Within the framework of this project, more than 100 new jobs will be created. The investment project is planned to be included in the list of programs for the production of import-substituting industrial products of the Beshtau radio-electronic industry cluster.

The agreement provides that the development, scribing and manufacture of finished microcircuits will be carried out on the territory of the Rostov region. Beshtau is engaged in the production of import-substituting products - radio electronics and computer equipment in Rostov-on-Don and Essentuki. In 2022, the company launched production in Rostov-on-Don for the production of electronic cards for electronic products, in 2023 it began construction of a full-cycle factory for the production of laptops.[3]

Production of microprocessors with investments of 2 billion rubles

At the end of June 2024, the Russian company Beshtau announced the production of microprocessors. According to the general director of the group Oleg Osipov, at the initial stage, production will be about 1 million chips annually.

File:Aquote1.png
The company already encloses about 20-30 thousand chips per month. Now we are going to invest about 2 billion rubles in the project in order to enter the production of 2-2.5 million chips per year. But at first we will build 1 million microprocessors a year, - said Osipov.

According to him, the assembly will take place in Rostov-on-Don, where the necessary personnel have been trained over the past three years. It is noted that microprocessors will be assembled using imported IP blocks and cores. According to Osipov, the company decided to buy proven cores from foreign vendors due to the lack of confirmed configurations on the Russian market. He added that some of the components were used from previous controllers, and some were purchased.

Beshtau CEO noted that the company bought an already proven core from a foreign vendor. He added that buying on the Russian market is a little scary, because none of the players can confirm that it was in this configuration that the kernel was used in a specific chip.

Beshtau is launching the project amid the difficulties faced by Russian microprocessor manufacturers with various problems. General Director of Baikal Electronics Andrei Evdokimov spoke about the difficulties with the production of chips in Russia. He noted that the company is making attempts to produce chips and make substrates, but so far this remains at the level of experiments[4]

Ivan Pokrovsky, executive director of the Association of Developers and Manufacturers of Electronics (ARPE), noted that by mid-2024 Russia was in the process of localization, when the country's largest trading companies, previously engaged exclusively in the distribution of foreign products, changed their strategy. They are striving to go from distributors to manufacturers, grocery companies. The easiest way to move to a new role is to acquire foreign design documentation and localize part of the production processes, he said.

Creation of joint venture with RostIntech

On February 19, 2024, the Beshtau group of companies and the manufacturer of machine tools RostIntech announced the creation of a joint venture called Beshtau Technologies. It will engage in research in the development of machines, equipment and technologies for radio electronics and microelectronics. Read more here.

Plan to launch the production of smartphones

In the Rostov region, Beshtau will launch the production of smartphones. However, the start date of the enterprise is scheduled only for 2027. This was announced on November 23, 2023 by the press service of the State Duma deputy RFAnton Nemkin.

Neither the scale of production nor more specific details have yet been reported. In addition, it is not known whether we are talking about creating a full-cycle enterprise or launching a factory according to the "screwdriver assembly" format.

File:Aquote1.png
If you look a little further - in 2027 - the company sets goals for itself, the government accompanies these projects, and where we are useful, we will participate in this work. This is the production of various mobile devices: tablets, smartphones. If we talk about whether I will use it? Of course I will. "Made on the Don" - it sounds beautiful, this is a brand that exists, it is already associated not only with food, but also with the production of a large number of goods of various purposes, - said Vasily Golubev, Governor of the Rostov Region.
File:Aquote2.png

File:Aquote1.png
Indeed, favorable conditions have developed for the development of their own technologies. On the one hand, there is a demand in the market itself due to the departure of many foreign vendors and the rise in prices for their products due to rising prices. logistics On the other hand, there is support from the outside states both in terms of direct benefits and simplification of the legal field for a number, industries economies including for IT the segment, - explained Anton Nemkin.
File:Aquote2.png

Russia has already shown flexibility in quickly creating and approving IT products in terms of software, Anton Nemkin recalled.

File:Aquote1.png
The task of creating Russian smartphones, of course, looks much more ambitious, given that this is not a segment traditional for Russian production. But nevertheless, we have an example of Chinese manufacturers who managed to compete with the usual brands for us. In addition, the country has a large demand for inexpensive but functional smartphones, which can become the main niche for Russian manufacturers. But I emphasize that it makes sense to launch such enterprises if we are talking about a full cycle. It should include both development and direct production with a large share of domestic components. Due to the fact that the full launch of the plant is scheduled for 2027, perhaps this approach can be organized. In any case, 4 years for a product such as a smartphone is a long time, so in the future it is necessary to take into account all market trends when launching in-line production, the parliamentarian concluded.

One of the tasks facing the country today is to ensure technological sovereignty. This is what will happen here soon. I am convinced that in 2025 we will witness that not just a new plant has appeared, but in fact a new product industry that is in demand in any area and in any region of the Russian Federation. New computer equipment, lithium-ion batteries, which are in great demand today, is what will be the subject of this plant, - said the Governor of the Rostovskaya Region Vasily Golubev during the ceremony of laying a symbolic stone at the construction site.
