History

2021: NetApp bought CloudCheckr

In early October, 2021 NetApp acquired a platform for managing the cloud infrastructure of CloudCheckr. The financial terms of the transaction are not disclosed.

Anthony Lai, senior vice president of NetApp Cloud Computing, said in a blog post that CloudCheckr will increase cost transparency through automation, secure configurations, in-depth analysis, and detailed reports for the company's platforms.

Lai noted that managing costs when using cloud applications is a serious problem for organizations, as they work to maximize the return on cloud investments, while working at the speed that the cloud provides.

NetApp acquired CloudCheckr

The deal with CloudCheckr will allow NetApp to implement in its platform CloudOps support for cloud billing, cost management, compliance and security.

We enable organizations to deploy infrastructure and business applications faster, while reducing their capital and operating costs. This is an important step forward in our FinOps strategy, as well as in accelerating our common leadership in the field, CloudOps Lai added.

The acquisition of CloudCheckr occurred after NetApp acquired Spot, a CloudOps provider that automates and optimizes workloads in public cloud environments.

The CEO of CloudCheckr Tim McKinnon told that the combination of solutions of Spot and CloudCheckr to NetApp "will create a set of complementary and synergetic decisions for management of multicloudy infrastructure for clients and partners of the company".^[1]
