2023: Thales bought Cobham for $1.1 Thales
On July 12, 2023, the French company Thales Group, a developer of technological solutions for the aerospace and defense sectors, announced the acquisition of Cobham Aerospace Communications, a manufacturer of communication systems for aviation. The transaction amount is approximately $1.1 billion.
It is assumed that the deal will provide an opportunity for Thales to strengthen its position in the avionics solutions market. Cobham Aerospace Communications, headquartered in Paris, operates in France, the United States, Canada, South Africa and Denmark. The company employs approximately 190 specialists. By the end of 2023, Cobham Aerospace Communications is expected to receive revenue of approximately $200 million.

Cobham Aerospace Communications develops, manufactures and maintains an extensive range of avionics solutions focused on cockpit communications. The range of its products, in particular, includes L-band satellite communication systems (antennas and transceivers), means for digital audio and radio control, as well as passive antenna systems that provide communication and navigation. Thales Group will finance the deal with available cash. The transfer of assets will be completed in the first half of 2024 after obtaining the necessary approvals from regulators. The acquisition of Cobham Aerospace Communications is understood to have a positive impact on Thales' profits during the first year after the deal closed.[1]
