2015: Hubert Burda Media invests $14 million in the company

In February, 2015 it became known that the Hubert Burda Media publishing house invests in the Vietnamese company Coc Coc - developer of the search system of the same name, the browser, the system of contextual advertizing and the location-based Nha Nha application. About it Vedomosti was told by the founder of Coc Coc Victor Lavrenko, and the representative of Hubert Burda Media Berthold Haydbyukhel it confirmed[1]. According to Lavrenko, transaction amount was $14 million. So far Coc Coc received the first tranche of investments.

According to Lavrenko, money will go for expansion of business Coc Coc in Southeast Asia. In 2015 the company is going to leave to two-three Asian countries, and in the future, perhaps, will undertake to master Latin America.

Hubert Burda Media actively works at the Asian markets since 1997 - manages publishing businesses on Taiwan, in Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and India, Haydbyukhel reminds. The publishing house considers Asia one of the most promising markets in the next years and invests in local media and the Internet companies, Burda specifies. Coc Coc was succeeded to attract large audience, technologies of the company successfully compete in the market and its business quickly grows, words of her chief executive Peter Kennedy are cited in the message of Burda.

Why Burda decided to invest in Internet search, representatives publishing do not speak at home. But the person familiar with managers of Burda is sure: for the company it is the strategic investment. Burda itself is interested in search technologies and owns the startup developing a search panel for the Firefox browser.

The Vietnamese Internet market on the level of development reminds Russian to 20-year, but in this country unlike Russia there was no revolution of desktops": the Internet in Vietnam became mass only with the advent of inexpensive Chinese smartphones, the CEO of the Vietnamese search engine Wada.vn Alexey Nagorny tells. The Wada.vn project is started in Vietnam in 2011 by the Russian companies "Ashmanov and partners", "Finam" and the Kazakh Cousteau investment group. According to Nagorny, in the search market of Vietnam dominates Google therefore Wada.vn was focused on mobilization of all services and processing of "transaction" requests - for example, connected with e-commerce.
