"Tasty - and the point" - the Russian chain of fast food restaurants, opened in the premises of the McDonald's chain after its closure in Russia and the full sale of all Russian business to entrepreneur Alexander Govor. The opening of the first restaurants of the chain took place on June 12, 2022.
Performance indicators
2023: Revenue growth 2.1 times to RUB 155.7 bln
At the end of 2023, the revenue of Sistema PBO, which manages the Tasty - And The Point fast food restaurant chain, reached 155.7 billion rubles. This is approximately 2.1 times more compared to 2022. Such figures are given in the financial report released on March 18, 2024.
Net profit of PBO System in 2023 was registered at 14.2 billion rubles. For comparison: a year earlier, the company suffered net losses in the amount of 11.6 billion rubles. Gross profit amounted to 27.5 billion rubles against a loss of 799.8 million rubles in 2022. Profit from sales in 2023 - 15.5 billion rubles against 8.1 billion rubles in losses a year earlier. The report also said that the cost of sales rose 1.7 times year-on-year, reaching 128.3 billion rubles.
It is noted that the high performance of 2023 is due to the fact that all enterprises of the network worked during the year, while in 2022 they were idle from mid-March to June. Establishments in 2022 gradually opened until the end of September: the fast food chain adjusted the menu, restored supply chains and invested in reopening outlets.
The high indicators of 2023 are associated, in particular, with the fact that throughout the last [2023] year all the enterprises of the network worked, new ones were opened - 37 (excluding the enterprises of franchisees and the Far Eastern region), all client services were finally restarted, including delivery, - the company said in a statement. |
As of March 2024, as noted on the site "Tasty - and Point," the network has more than 880 enterprises in 64 constituent entities of the Russian Federation. These restaurants serve almost 2 million visitors every day. The total number of jobs in Russia exceeds 62 thousand.[1]
2022
Revenue decrease by 2.3% to 73.5 billion rubles
The revenue of the company "System PBO" (the former McDonald's LLC) - the operating structure "Tasty - and the Point" - at the end of 2022 amounted to 73.5 billion rubles, having decreased by 2.3% compared to 2021. Net loss reached 11.3 billion rubles, while in 2021 a net profit of 2 billion rubles was recorded.
According to Prime, citing the financial statements of the PBO System, the loss from the company's sales in 2022 amounted to 5.4 billion rubles, a year earlier the figure was at the level of 3.9 billion rubles
The company "DVRP," which owns the restaurants "Tasty - and the Point" in the Far East received revenue of 667.7 million rubles for 2022. Year-on-year growth was 3.6%. The company's net loss amounted to 184.6 million rubles, loss from sales - 148.7 million rubles.
The press service of "Tasty - and Point" linked the drop in revenue with the closure of restaurants from March to June 2022.
Comparing the indicators of 2022 from 2021 is incorrect, since the network's enterprises did not work from mid-March to June and gradually reopened until the end of September. The company invested a lot in re-opening enterprises, in addition, all menu positions and services were not immediately restarted - for example, delivery, - the company explained to Prime. |
Tasty and the Point also noted that the figures for January and February this year are higher than for the same period in 2022. "As for March, it is possible to compare the indicators only with 2021, for this month" Tasty - and the point "also shows results higher than those of the departed brand," the press service added.
Alexander Borisov, Chairman of the Council for the Development of the Consumer Market of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, noted that losses were expected, because for a long time the restaurants were closed, and the company incurred staff maintenance costs. At the same time, a significant part of suppliers had to be changed and supply chains were built, and the terms of the new agreements became worse than McDonald's, he said.
'Delicious - and dot 'hit McDonald's sales figures
'Delicious - and the point'was almost entirely on McDonald's operating performance at the time of its departure from Russia. According to the general director of the network Oleg Paroev in November 2022, the share of "Tasty - and Point" from all checks punched in the three largest fast food chains in Russia is 54%. By comparison, McDonald's had 55% a year ago. And this despite the fact that the company did not work for almost three months, and delivery is just starting to start.

Results of the work of "Auto distribution": 201 cars per hour and more than 8.5 million cars per month
The company "Tasty - and the Point" on February 16, 2024 shared the analytics of the work of the service "Auto Distribution," which as of mid-February 2024 is presented in every second enterprise of the network.
The company pioneers this concept in Russia and actively develops it when entering new regions or discoveries in existing ones. According to Tasty - and Point, the service is popular, as it helps to reduce service time and, at the same time, provides a simple client experience.
According to the company, in 2023, more than 105 million orders were issued through the Avtozrazdachi system throughout Russia. In January 2024, guests in cars made more than 8 million orders. The service provides an impressive percentage of sales: for example, in Moscow, orders for AvtoDistribution in enterprises equipped with this system account for more than 41% of total sales.
On average, each car on AvtoRazdach is serviced in three minutes. Most orders through "Auto Distribution" are issued on Fridays, and peak sales hours fall on the time from 12.00 to 16.00.
The leader in the number of serviced cars is the Vkusno - and Point enterprise at 63 Leningradskoye Shosse in Moscow: it regularly serves more than 100 cars per hour. In April 2023, it set a record for the Tasty - And The Point network - then in an hour Avtorazdacha served 201 cars.
And in the Far East, the Avto-Distribution lines in the network enterprises are equipped with a system of bilateral order receiving terminals - to serve cars with both left and right steering wheels. This solution was developed specifically for the Far East, taking into account the peculiarities of the local fleet.
"According to our data, every 7th car in the Russian Federation drives into Tasty - and Point, and more than 8.5 million drivers become our guests at AvtoRazdach every month," said Anna Patrunina, vice president for production of Tasty - and Point. |

Data breach of hundreds of thousands of job seekers
At the end of May 2023, it became known about the leakage of data from hundreds of thousands of applicants "Tasty - and full stop." According to the Infosecurity Telegram channel, hackers have made publicly available a database of job seekers in a fast food chain. The dump contains 295,914 lines and covers the period from January 1, 2018 to May 25, 2023. The file contains:
- names of candidates for vacancies;
- Query dates and sources
- age;
- citizenship;
- Mobile phone number (215,677 unique numbers)
- jobs;
- percentage of the test passing at the interview;

As the TASS agency reported on May 27, 2023 with reference to the press service "Tasty - and Point," the specialists of the security service and the IT department of the company began checking in connection with the appearance of information about a possible data leak from the site "Work - and Point."
At the moment, the security service and the IT department are checking the accuracy of the data leak from the site "Work - and Period," the message says. |
Applicants use this site for employment in a fast food chain, for this they need to fill out a questionnaire indicating some personal data, there is also information about the availability of vacancies, points, etc.
If the fact of leakage of confidential data is confirmed, the company faces a fine for violating the requirements of Part 1 of Art. 13.11 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation (violation of legislation in the field of personal data), the maximum amount of which is 100 thousand rubles (by May 2023).
Infosecurity did not disclose the names of the hacker groups that attacked the company, and emphasized that the connection with Tasty - and Period and its Work - and Period division, as well as the reliability of the data, remains to be seen.[2]

Opening 142 restaurants instead of McDonald's
In Russia, opened 142 restaurants of the network "Tasty - and Point" from 850 former McDonald's. This became known on June 27, 2022.
The general director of the chain Oleg Paroev said that it is planned to open all restaurant points in the Russian Federation in September 2022.
At the same time, the company intends to expand the number of establishments to one thousand in the next five years
According to him, most restaurants will be opened in Moscow[3] have [4].
Potato shortage
In June 2022, it became known that in some restaurants "Tasty - and the point" there will be no French fries and potatoes in a rustic way. This is due to the fact that 2021 in Russia has become a lean year for potato varieties, which is used for the production of potatoes in network enterprises. In addition, imports from markets that could become temporary suppliers of potatoes for enterprises in Russia have become impossible.
In full, potatoes will appear on the menu at the beginning of the next harvest year, in the fall of 2022, - RBC.
Sale of McDonald's chain in Russia with the right to buy back after 15 years to Alexander Govor due to pressure from the US government
After the outbreak of the conflict, McDonald's announced financial support for Ukraine. Soon, McDonald's executives held a meeting with another powerful symbol of American capitalism: Coca-Cola. These two companies have been cooperating around the world for several decades, including in Russia, where McDonald's sells Coke products. Senior US officials have told both McDonald's and Coca-Cola that they should leave Russia.
The pressure of officials was growing. On March 7, 2022, Jeffrey Sonnenfeld, a professor at the Yale School of Management, appeared on CNBC criticizing McDonald's for staying in Russia and closing in Ukraine. The next day, McDonald's and Coca-Cola announced the suspension of their Russian business. Kempczinski sent an email to McDonald's employees and franchisees saying he would temporarily close all restaurants in the country while continuing to pay employee salaries and maintain current lease conditions for restaurant sites.
In Moscow, the head of the local branch of Paroev was shocked. "We had no idea what would happen to the business, whether it would remain in limbo or be completely closed," he said later. Whether restaurants open again or not, there's a huge price to pay for it.
News of McDonald's decision to close restaurants has caused chaos. When Paroev ordered all McDonald's restaurants in Russia to close, some franchisees refused to comply.
McDonald's was losing money. Weeks passed, the United States and Britain forced Ukraine to continue the conflict instead of concluding peace with Russia, and it became clear that Western sanctions would make it difficult for the company to continue working in Russia. The US government has imposed sanctions on Sberbank.
Paroev said that most McDonald's employees in Russia have personal accounts with Sberbank, which was the only opportunity in some rural areas.
Then, in early April, the Biden administration banned new investments in Russia and banned the provision of services to "a person from the United States, wherever it is." It was a move forcing American companies to leave Russia.
Shortly after April's investment ban, Kempczinski and McDonald's board concluded that the game was over. They decided to take a radical step - to sell Russian enterprises.
McDonald's outlined the contours of the escape route. Even before the war, the company decided that it wanted to sell its restaurants in Russia and increase the number of franchises to bring them in line with how McDonald's operates in other countries. The company has already compiled a short list of potential buyers of establishments. In early May, company executives traveled to Dubai to meet with several Russian challengers.
Among the buyers interested was skinny, grey-haired former miner and entrepreneur Alexander Gowore, one of McDonald's rebel franchisees. Govor ran 25 restaurants in Siberia and defiantly remained open during the closures. Negotiations with Govor lasted several hours. On May 9, McDonald's executives in Chicago held a video conference with Govor in Siberia and informed him that he had won - they decided to "entrust" him with the business. For the first time in our history, we are "freeing up" a major market and selling McDonald's restaurant portfolio, "Kempczinski wrote in an email to employees and suppliers around the world announcing the sale.
On May 19, 2022, it was announced that McDonald's would sell the business in Russia to the current licensee Alexander Govor, his company "GD" operates 25 McDonald's restaurants in Novosibirsk, Berdsk, Tomsk, Kemerovo, Novokuznetsk, Barnaul and Krasnoyarsk. He will run the network under the new Tasty brand - period.
Kairat Boranbaev, a relative of ex-President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, was also called a potential buyer of the SPP company.
On June 2, 2022, the FAS approved the acquisition of McDonald's business in Russia by Alexander Govor's Club-Hotel company. Under the terms of the transaction, the seller has the right to buy the business back within 15 years.
Govor told the media he paid a "nominal fee" for the business in a deal that obliged him to keep all 62,000 employees for two years. The contract gave McDonald's the right to buy back the business for 15 years on market terms. He forbade Govor from using McDonald's name, logo, colors and menus, but the rest of the terms were not disclosed. McDonald's has borne the $1.3 billion cost of exiting Russia, suggesting it is unlikely to get much money from the deal, if at all.
The fire sale made one wealthy Russian businessman even richer overnight. At the end of May, in one of the branches of the company near Moscow, a large crane helped lower the giant letter "M" into the parking lot. The same thing happened again at more than 800 restaurants across the country. "Anything that could remind McDonald's had to be destroyed," Paroyev told me.
At the suggestion of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, Govor appointed the opening of the still nameless flagship restaurant on Pushkinskaya Square and more than a dozen others on June 12 - Russia Day, a national holiday. The restart time was chosen in such a way as to demonstrate the ability of Russia not only to survive, but also to flourish in the context of international sanctions and the outflow of Western companies. On the eve of the discovery, the new name remained a mystery. Some hoped it would be called "McDuck," a nickname the Russians use for "McDonald's." Gowore rejected a rebranding proposal called "McGowore" as "immodest." In fact, he and his management team could not use the Mack. They had to discuss the proposed names and new packaging with McDonald's to make sure it did not violate their agreement.
McDonald's rejected about 20 proposed titles, according to Paroev, who remained as CEO of the new burger chain. At the last moment, Govor decided to rebrand under the name "Tasty and the Point." The golden arches were replaced with a new logo - two lines and a circle symbolizing fries and a burger.
McDonald's lost not only financially but strategically. The Russian copycat brand easily adopted the McDonald's concept, assets and systems, which have been created for decades.
McDonald's losses from the shutdown in Russia and Ukraine turned out to be 2.5 times more than expected
McDonald's losses from the shutdown in Russia and Ukraine turned out to be 2.5 times more than expected. This is stated in the company's report for the first quarter of 2022, which was published at the end of April.
According to McDonald's estimates, we are talking about losses of $127 million, including a $100 million write-off of products that could deteriorate due to the closure of fast food restaurants. Another $27 million in losses are for rent, services and staff salaries.
Earlier, McDonald's predicted that its losses as a result of leaving Russia would amount to about $50 million per month, but without taking into account the consequences of the suspension of restaurants in Ukraine.
Our restaurants in Ukraine and Russia remain closed. In both countries, we continue to pay salaries to our employees and provide them with additional support. But it is obvious to us that this crisis is far from over. The situation is constantly developing, we are analyzing our capabilities and expect to provide investors and shareholders with clear guidelines no later than the end of the second quarter [2022], - said McDonald's CEO Chris Kempczinski on April 28, 2022 at a conference on the publication of financial statements. |
As Vedomosti writes in the issue of March 30, 2022, only its own McDonald's establishments have been suspended - about 85% of them. In Russia, before the start of the special operation in Ukraine, there were 850 McDonald's restaurants. Of these, 132 belong to three large franchisees: Development Growth LLC, GD LLC and Regional Network of Food Enterprises LLC (SPP LLC).
In the work of McDonald's restaurants in Siberia, which are managed by GD LLC, nothing has changed, the entire assortment is offered to guests in the same volume, Olesya Samcheleeva, marketing director of GD LLC, told Vedomosti. All 25 points continue to operate normally, she said.[5]
Suspension of McDonald's work in Russia will cost the company $50 million per month
Stopping work in Russia will cost McDonalds $50 million a month. This was announced on March 9, 2022 by the company's CFO Kevin Ozan.
This is a really difficult situation for a global company like us, "he stressed (quoted by Reuters). |
On March 8, 2022, McDonalds announced the temporary closure of all its 847 restaurants in Russia. At the same time, the company promised to pay salaries to all employees of these institutions and offices (their total number is about 62 thousand). In addition to the cost of paying salaries, McDonalds' costs will come from production facilities that McDonald's leases, as well as supply chain operations, Ozan said.
The fast food chain did not specify how long the establishments in Russia will be closed. The decision to suspend work in the Russian Federation is associated with the start of a special operation of Russia in Ukraine, as well as the subsequent economic sanctions of the West against the country.
By March 2022, McDonalds independently manages 84% of its establishments in Russia, the rest work under a franchise agreement. The company clarified that all restaurants in the country will be temporarily suspended.
McDonalds employees, if the enterprises of the American company are nationalized in Russia against the background of sanctions, "will continue to work in the same areas, but under a different brand," said State Duma deputy and deputy chairman of the health protection committee Alexei Kurinny. According to him, the State Duma has already discussed such an opportunity "in the presence of appropriate infrastructure," suppliers and busy people.
On March 9, 2022, the Government Commission on Legislative Activities approved the second package of laws aimed at supporting the Russian economy. They also provide for the nationalization of the property of foreign organizations that have left the Russian market.[6]
Top managers of the company refuse to leave Russia after the start of the conflict in Ukraine
In early March 2022, top executives at McDonald's Corp. gathered for an annual meeting in Cascais, a swanky coastal resort town in Portugal. Just a few days before that, a military special operation of Russia in Ukraine began.
McDonald's, arguably the biggest symbol of American capitalism, initially behaved as usual. Since opening its first restaurant in Moscow in 1990, a powerful sign of easing Cold War tensions, the company has set up a trail for a host of other Western companies in Russia. In the days after the conflict broke out, McDonald's chief executive Chris Kempczynski temporarily closed the company's restaurants in Ukraine for security reasons but continued to operate in Russia.
After arriving in Kashkaisha, the Bloomberg alarmed [[[Paroyev Oleg Yuryevich 'Oleg Paroyev)], recently appointed CEO of McDonald's in Russia, wrote later, asked Kempczynski and then-CFO Kevin Ozan if the company was considering leaving Russia or suspending operations. They both looked at me and said, "Are you crazy? Do you really think that we will ever leave Russia? Of course not, "said Paroev.
The stakes were huge. The company directly owned almost all of its 850 restaurants in Russia - only about 15% were franchised. The country employed 62,000 people and another 100,000 worked for local McDonald's supply companies. Russia accounted for about 7% of the burger chain's global revenue, or roughly $1.6 billion. The company had an extensive network of physical assets in the country.
Oleg Paroev - the new CEO of McDonald's in Russia
On February 2, 2022, it was announced the appointment of Oleg Paroev as the new CEO of the Russian representative office of McDonald's. In this position, he will replace Swiss Mark Karen, who has led the company since 2018. Karen will leave McDonald's LLC by the end of February 2022. Why it was decided to change the leadership is not reported. Read more here.

Launch of online broadcast of cooking

McDonald's noted that in the context of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, the company began to take enhanced sanitary safety measures. So, ultraviolet air disinfectants were launched in the kitchen, which work around the clock, and sanitizers were installed in the order area. Every day, employees additionally disinfect 59 zones, before each shift, their body temperature is measured (the same applies to couriers - before issuing orders).
Employees always work in masks and nitrile gloves, wash their hands at least once an hour. The McAvto and McExpress release windows are equipped with protective screens.
We understand that now it is especially important for consumers to know exactly how their favorite dishes are prepared, so we decided to demonstrate complete openness and invite all Russians to the McDonald's kitchen online, "said Irina Korshunova, director of the McDonald's quality assurance and sustainable development department in Russia. |
It is noted that the broadcast was launched for the period before the opening of enterprises, when all guests will be able to visit McDonald's restaurants in person.
All McDonald's restaurants in Russia have switched to take-away and delivery since March 28, 2020 to ensure compliance with all safety measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection COVID-19.[7]

However, the company is considering the possibility of building a large distribution center in the Alabuga special economic zone with the production of semi-finished products for organizing deliveries to restaurants that it plans to open further than Tyumen.
In Russia, according to the company, more than 80% of products sold in restaurants or used as raw materials are produced domestically, in Ukraine - 83).

The Russian subsidiaries of the American chain of McDonald's eateries sent almost all the net profit earned in 2012 to the parent company in the form of dividends, follows from the financial statements of McDonald's LLC and Moscow-McDonald's CJSC for 2012, published in SPARK. The new institution contrasted sharply with traditional Soviet catering.
On the opening day, 30 thousand visitors visited the restaurant, which was a record for the McDonald's chain.
The chain of restaurants in Russia was opened by George A. Cohon, who owns the Canadian representative office of McDonald's.
