Department of regional security of the Government of Moscow
Department of regional security – the new structure created in the Government of Moscow in the middle of January, 2011 by reorganization of management of coordination of activities for security. In the capital the new department is engaged in law-enforcement activity and work on security now.
As the Mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin noted, announcing creation of department, "it is not just change of the sign, it is about need of high-quality improvement of a situation in the field of providing law and order and also building of an effective system of interaction of the Government of Moscow with federal law enforcement agencies". The mayor emphasized that "such task was set for us by the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in the decree on investment of heads of subjects with additional powers with the sphere of security and creation of coordination councils on public security". According to Sobyanin, the department should resist to the threats proceeding from organized crime, drug traffic, terrorism, extremism, corruption, xenophobia, illegal migration.
Till January, 2012 the department was headed by Valery Kadatsky. At the end of January it was replaced by Alexey Mayorov.
