History

2020: Nokia purchased Elenion

On February 19, 2020 Nokia announced Elenion Technologies purchase. Financial and other terms of agreement of the company did not begin to open. It is known only that the transaction is going to be closed in the first quarter 2020.

Nokia became one of market leaders of optical transport solutions after merger of Alcatel-Lucent in 2016. The corresponding business, judging by the financial statement for 2019, saves high growth rates.

Nokia announced Elenion Technologies purchase

It is supposed that purchase of Elenion will add the innovation features in products of Nokia for optical networks. Affirms as the press release that the Elenion platform created on technologies of silicon photonics is capable to increase efficiency of optical communication links by means of the built-in building tools and, in turn, to reduce data transmission cost for the operator.

Technology know-how of Elenion can be relevant also for core business of Nokia — equipment manufacturing for mobile networks. It is noted that technologies of silicon photonics Elenion are high-integrated, inexpensive and are ideal for short and high-performance optical interfaces. It indicates that technologies can widely be applied in dense radio networks of a 5G and also in business market where Nokia strengthens the positions.

Ownership of key assets which Elenion has will provide to a portfolio of network solutions of Nokia of advantage regarding an output of products to the market and cost reductions — said in Nokia.[1]
