2020: Plan to build a private cosmodrome for light missiles for 600 million rubles in Dagestan

At the end of December 2020, Success Rockets announced the conclusion of an agreement with Dagestan Development Corporation JSC on the construction of a private cosmodrome for ultra-light rockets. The amount of expenses under the project is estimated at 600 million rubles. It is planned to raise funds from the state budget, as well as private investors.

According to Interfax, citing the press service of Success Rockets, the construction of the Europa spaceport in Dagestan is planned to be launched in the fall of 2021. On a land plot of 50 g, two launchers, a test site, a flight control center, a missile production complex, a small aviation airfield, a hotel for tourists and workers, as well as a railway station will be located.

Success Rockets plans to produce, test and launch ultralight rockets at this cosmodrome, for which there are no suitable sites in Russia yet. The first commercial launch of an ultralight rocket is scheduled for 2024.

The company noted plans to develop five areas: ultralight rockets, tugboats, satellites, satellite constellations and space data analytics.

Meanwhile, on the page of the agency for entrepreneurship and investment of the Republic of Dagestan on Instagram, a message appeared that the feasibility of building a private cosmodrome on the territory of Dagestan was not confirmed. In particular, environmental research and expertise were not carried out, potential risks were not studied.

This is not the first such project in Russia. In March last year, the CosmoCourse company, which is engaged in the development of space tourism in Russia, concluded an agreement with the government of the Nizhny Novgorod region on cooperation in the framework of the creation of the first private cosmodrome in the Russian Federation. The agreement provides for private investments in the construction of the facility in the amount of 2.6 billion rubles. It is planned to complete the creation of the cosmodrome in 2025.[1]
