in 1953]]

The store became a collection of the most scarce goods and a symbol of the capital of the USSR along with the Kremlin, the mausoleum of Lenin and VDNKh.

The floors of the atrium were designed by Vladimir Shukhov, the creator of the famous Shukhov Tower.

The reconstruction also affected the historical fountain, installed in 1906. It took on a new shape - an octagonal base of red quartzite. The top of the fountain was decorated with an elegant openwork structure, which became one of the symbols of GUM.
