GUM Trading House

Company

GUM is one of the oldest stores in the country, occupying a whole block between Red Square and Vetoshny Lane. It was opened in 1893 under the name Upper Trading Rows.

GUM is a whole shopping quarter, an architectural monument, a comfortable recreation area with restaurants and cafes, an art gallery and a venue for cultural events.

1990: Corporation

In December 1990, GUM was transformed into the GUM Trading House Joint-Stock Company.

1953: General Reconstruction

The date of the second birth of the trading house is considered 1953, when, after the general reconstruction of the building, the first and largest trade center in Soviet Russia, the State General Store, GUM, was opened here. The store became a collection of the most scarce goods and a symbol of the capital of the USSR along with the Kremlin, the mausoleum of Lenin and VDNKh.
