2023: Spin off Huawei's automotive business into a company; selling 40% of it to the Changan group

On November 26, 2023, Chongqing Changan Automobile (Changan Auto) and Huawei Technologies announced the signing of an agreement on cooperation in the automotive sector. The agreement provides for the formation of a new joint venture Huawei Intelligent Automotive Solution, which will be engaged in research and development, the production, sale and maintenance of intelligent automotive systems and component solutions.

As part of the project, Huawei will provide the new structure with the main technologies and resources of its smart vehicle division. Changan Auto will receive a 40 percent stake in the joint venture. The financial terms of the agreement are not disclosed as of that date.

The new company intends to work with partners to promote innovation and strengthen leadership in the field of intelligent automotive technologies, and will also contribute to the prosperity and development of the automotive industry, the parties said in a statement.

Various subsidiary brands of Changan, such as Avatr and Deep, intend to actively cooperate with the joint venture. In addition, it is planned to strengthen interaction with other participants in the automotive market, including Seres and Chery. Among the key areas of activity are smart driving solutions, smart car cabins, advanced digital platforms for the transport sector, cloud services, projection displays with augmented reality technology and smart car headlights. The introduction of these technologies will improve control comfort, improve safety and expand the functionality of cars. It is also said that the parties intend to "use the potential of electrification and intellectual transformation of the automotive industry."[1]
