2020: Damage of 2 million rubles from underground miners

On August 12, 2020, Rosseti North Caucasus announced the identification of several farms illegally connected to power grids for the extraction of cryptocurrencies in Dagestan. Losses from illegal activities of miners are estimated at almost 2 million rubles.

In the village of Kafyr-Kumukh, Buinaksky district, an attacker miner was discovered, which, according to Rosseti's calculations, caused damage to the energy company in the amount of over 1.7 million rubles. The fact of theft was revealed by a working group of specialists of the Security Department for the Republic of Dagestan and the Dagenergo branch together with employees of the Main Directorate MINISTRY OF INTERNAL AFFAIRS Russia for the North Caucasus Federal District during raid measures in July 2020 to prevent and suppress the facts of theft of the energy resource.

In Dagestan, underground miners stole electricity from Rosseti by almost 2 million rubles

Representatives of the working group clarified that a metal magnet was attached to the offender's accounting device, which suspended the operation of the meter and changed the actual volumes of electricity consumed downward. On the fact of the revealed violation, power engineers drew up an act on unaccounted electricity consumption. The information was transferred to law enforcement agencies. The violator may face both administrative and criminal liability.

Another fact of theft of electricity was discovered in July 2020 in the capital of the Republic of Dagestan. A resident of Makhachkala organized the work of a mining farm in the garage of his own house. By August 12, 2020, the attacker fully compensated for the damage, which amounted to about 247 thousand rubles.

The press service of Rosseti stressed that Dagestan is an "anti-leader" among the regions of the Russian Federation in terms of the number of illegal Power detected,  it was estimated that the total economic damage due to mining theft in the macro-region since May last year has exceeded 200 million rubles, the company said.
