2022: Start of production of BMP-3 with dynamic protection modules on the tower

On November 11, 2022, it became known that Kurganmashzavod began mass production of BMP-3 for the Russian army with anti-cumulative dynamic protection modules on the tower. This follows from the video published in the Telegram channel of the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev.

BMP-3 is actively used by Russian troops in a special operation in Ukraine. Earlier, deliveries to the Russian army of BMP-3 with dynamic protection were not reported. Dynamic protection should increase the survivability of the BMP-3 on the battlefield, as it reduces the possibility of its destruction by anti-tank weapons.

Dynamic protection is a "sandwich" packed in a container made of durable steel plates, between which a decent portion of explosives is "charged." When a shaped shell or grenade hits such an element, the explosive detonates, throwing the plates towards the jet. Hitting a sudden obstacle, the jet loses energy and dissipates even before meeting the armor.

The personnel shows the Kurganmashzavod workshops with dozens of new infantry fighting vehicles, on the front and sides of the towers of which screens with mounts for dynamic protection modules are installed. In total - five mounts to the right and left of the 100 mm gun.

End 2022 BMP-3 Overview

The head of the main armored department Ministry of Defence Russia , Alexander Shestakov, reported that additional protection kits BTR-80 created for BMP-3, BMP-2, BTR-82A, as well as the "supply" of these kits to the troops, primarily to the areas of the special military operation.

2001: Dynamic Protection BMP-3 Introduced

For the first time, a BMP-3 with dynamic protection was presented in 2001 at an exhibition in Omsk. It was reported that the defense was called "Cactus" and the BMP-3 with it is able to withstand the hit of cumulative grenades with armor penetration up to 550 millimeters.
