2025: Opening of the BASEALT Training and Research Laboratory

At the Kursk Railway College of St. Petersburg State University of Railways of Alexander I, a training and research laboratory for working with Alt operating systems was opened. BASEALT announced this on October 8, 2025.

Training in the laboratory will allow students to acquire popular competencies in the field of creating and administering complex IT infrastructures based on domestic solutions. The gained theoretical and practical knowledge will allow future specialists to ensure the safe operation of digital services, logistics systems, traffic control and communications, on which the stability of transportation depends.

We are constantly increasing cooperation with universities and colleges, offering domestic developments, educational materials, certification programs, databases of practices and internships, ― said Tatyana Gubina, head of the department for work with educational organizations "BASEALT." ― Cooperation with the Kursk Railway College will be the starting point for the training of in-demand specialists who are ready to ensure the technological independence and safety of the country's transport logistics.

The laboratory will:

  • teach students using the Alt family OS;
  • conduct classes, practices, internships and other training and career guidance activities for students;
  • teach students the network and system administration of GNU/Linux systems using the example of the Alt OS.

BaseALT will provide educational and methodological materials for use in the educational process.

To implement the training and research area computer , classes equipped with workstations with Alt operating systems will be involved.

We live in an era of rapid technological change, and our task is to train specialists who can work effectively in these conditions. Cooperation with BASEALT is an important step towards achieving this goal. I am sure that together we will be able to create all the conditions for our graduates to become high-class professionals who are able to solve the most difficult problems in the field of railway transport, ― commented Vladimir Ageev, director of the Kursk Railway Technical School, a branch of PGUPS.
