Opening of a laboratory complex in St. Petersburg for ₽300 million
In October 2024, the Gemotest Laboratory company commissioned a new laboratory complex in the Moscow district of St. Petersburg. Investments in the project amounted to ₽300 million, which made it possible to create a modern diagnostic center with an area of 1250 square meters. The creation of a large laboratory center in St. Petersburg can also contribute to the development of medical tourism in the region, attracting patients from neighboring regions and countries.
The new complex is equipped with high-tech equipment from China, the United States and Switzerland. The capacity of the laboratory allows you to conduct up to 5 thousand studies daily, ensuring the prompt receipt of results.
The range of services provided by the complex includes clinical, biochemical and cytological studies, as well as tests for hormones and cancer markers. Before the opening of this center, biomaterials had to be sent to the company's Moscow laboratory, which increased the time for obtaining results. Now patients will be able to receive the results of most studies the very next day, and some within a few hours.
Gemotest plans to additionally invest ₽250 million in expanding the range of services and introducing new research methods. The laboratory complex will serve not only residents of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, but also patients from the Pskov and Novgorod regions, which will significantly increase the availability of modern laboratory diagnostics in the North-West region.
The new laboratory complex in St. Petersburg may become an important link in the medical care system of the North-West region, will contribute to increasing the availability of medical services, - said Tamara Silkina, director of laboratory technologies at Gemotest.[1] |
Launch of the Center for Genetic Research for 400 million rubles
The Hemotest laboratory network has opened a genetic research center in the city of Dzerzhinsky, Moscow Region. The company has allocated more than ₽400 million for the implementation of this project. The center was officially launched at the end of August 2024 and specializes in reproductive genetics, the diagnosis of hereditary diseases, oncogenetics, the study of hereditary predispositions and pharmacogenetics. The total area of the new center is 1000 sq. m.
According to "," Sheets the center plans to conduct up to 22 thousand studies every month and serve up to 13,500 patients from Russia both countries, CIS such as,, and Kazakhstan. Kyrgyzstan Tajikistan For Uzbekistan comparison, in 2023, Hemotest performed about 10 thousand genetic studies for 5,000-6,000 patients. Thus, the capacity of the new center will significantly expand the volume of services provided.
The center will carry out research in several areas, including reproductive genetics, which allows you to identify the causes of infertility and identify the risks of hereditary diseases in future children. Within the framework of oncogenetics, the center provides diagnostics of oncological diseases, determines the risks of their development and inheritance, and also helps to adjust drug treatment based on genetic data.
According to the general director of the analytical company DSM Group Sergei Shulyak, the demand for genetic research in Russia cannot yet be called high. However, with increasing awareness among physicians and patients, this segment has the potential for active development. Experts believe that companies operating in this market, including Gemotest, should conduct educational work with the medical community in order to increase the number of genetic tests prescribed.[2]

Who and how hacked the database with the personal data of Gemotest clients. Details of the high-profile case
In 2023, one of the hackers who committed a resonant hack and stole a database with personal data of Gemotest clients last year was tried unnoticed by the public. The culprit received 1.5 years of restriction of freedom for this episode. TAdviser studied the verdict[3]which entered into force this fall, and found out under what circumstances the crime was committed, as well as why the hacker's punishment was rather lenient.
The verdict was passed to a 4th year student of St. Petersburg Mining University, previously not convicted Alekperov Fuad Maarif oglu. He was charged under Article 272 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation Part 3 "illegal access to computer information protected by law, a group of persons by prior conspiracy, which entailed copying of computer information" and Article 273 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation Part 2 "use of a computer program knowingly intended for unauthorized destruction, blocking, modification, copying of computer information..."
According to the criminal case, Alekperov with unidentified accomplices, having received the credentials of the administrator of the gms-admin@gemotest.ru, installed on the corporate TV website no later than April 21, 2022 at the address corptv.gemotest.ru a remote control program like web-shell with open source texts p0wny-shell and with its help gained access to two databases: "OrdersFromCASH" and "MIS," which just contained the data of companies "Laboratory Gemotest" and personal medicine clinic "Medexpert Plus."
In addition, a remote control tool for Linux was installed on the captured server, which was identified as agent.ar. With the help of a corporate TV server, a hacker with accomplices organized a data leak - in total, according to the investigation, 7.79 GB of personal data was stolen in this way. After stealing personal data from the Gemotest information system, the attackers posted them on two Darknet resources in May 2022, where they were put up for sale.
True, the criminal case of Alekperov indicates the amount of data of 7.79 GB, while in the administrative case[4] against Gemotest Roskomnadzor indicated 300 GB of information (for more information on the administrative case, see the article block below). The addresses where the attackers posted the stolen data completely coincide in the materials of both cases. Moreover, the experts of the department, who conducted an unscheduled check of the Gemotest information systems, confirmed the identity of the internal Gemotest databases and those that were published on the website for the sale of stolen data.
The court found Alekperov guilty of two episodes: illegal access to information as part of an organized group and the installation of malicious software for Linux. For each of the crimes, the judge appointed 1 year of restriction of freedom. The court recognized as mitigating circumstances the full recognition of guilt by the defendants, repentance for the deed, positive characteristics, the presence of thanks, achievements, grants, assistance to relatives, participation in charity, young age. Taking into account extenuating circumstances, the judge sentenced citizen Alekperov F.M. to 1.5 years of restriction of freedom with the following restrictions:
not to change the permanent place of residence and not to leave the territory without notifying the specialized state body exercising control over the convict to restriction of freedom; not to leave the residential premises at the place of residence during the period from 22 hours 00 minutes to 06 hours 00 minutes, except for cases related to obtaining education in a higher educational institution. |
Moreover, the ban on access to information resources and the Internet is not provided for in the verdict.

A fine of 60 thousand rubles for leakage of customer data
At the end of July 2022, the World Judicial District of the Novogireevo District in Moscow fined Gemotest 60 thousand rubles for leaking personal data of patients.
According to RIA Novosti, citing the text of the published court decision, representatives of Roskomnadzor in the Central Federal District said in court about the leakage of "more than 300 gigabytes of information with personal data of customers." Later, data on the sale of leaked information appeared on the Internet.
In relation to Gemotest, a protocol on an administrative offense was drawn up under Part 1 of Art. 13.11 of the Administrative Code (violation of the legislation of the Russian Federation in the field of personal data). Representatives of the network of medical laboratories admitted the fact of a hacker attack, noting that the download from the database took place in small fragments not exceeding 3 GB. The defenders did not recognize the guilt of society and asked to dismiss the case due to the lack of composition of the offense.
As a result, the court found Gemotest guilty and issued a fine, which turned out to be 40 thousand rubles less than the amount of punishment provided for by the legislation of the Russian Federation in the field of personal data.
According to the results of an unscheduled audit, Roskomnadzor issued an order to eliminate violations without instructions on what exactly and in what way it is necessary to comply. The clarifying request from "Gemotest" remained without a motivated response. According to the current status, the company was recognized as a violator and received an administrative fine, despite the lack of composition for the offense in the form of guilt and intent, Gemotest said. |
By July 2022, Gemotest is one of the five largest players in the Russian market for laboratory services. Each year, the company performs more than 105 million studies.[5]
There was a leak of data from customers of the Gemotest network of medical laboratories
In early May 2022, it became known about the leakage of these customers of Gemotest. A large network of medical laboratories began checking.
According to the Telegram channel "Information Leaks," two advertisements for the sale of the Gemotest database appeared on the darknet at once. One of the sellers said that he had at his disposal an archive with 31 million lines containing such personal information as names, addresses, phones, series and passport numbers.
According to our information, this base appeared in closed access to a very limited number of people in early spring. The data (the exact amount is less than announced by the seller - 30.5 million lines) was obtained due to a vulnerability in the laboratory's IT system, experts from Information Leaks say. |
Analysis of the test sample of data showed that the database currently being sold was unloaded from the laboratory's information system no earlier than April 22, 2022. According to experts, the vulnerability due to which the leak incident occurred several times has not been closed by May 4, 2022.
The second seller offers to buy from him a database of results of 554 million analyzes of the Gemotest laboratory, as well as the vulnerability itself to access the database server. The contents of both leaks have not yet been checked by experts.
According to TASS, the head of the company's information security department, Ivan Osipov, according to the information that appeared on the Internet about a possible leak of confidential data, the corporate security department initiated an internal internal internal audit in order to refute or confirm this fact. If the fact of the leak is confirmed, the company will appeal to law enforcement agencies with a statement about illegal actions in relation to confidential information, he said.
According to Osipov, in order to prevent data leakage, the company is taking all necessary measures to tighten technical measures in order to safely process confidential information and ensure an appropriate level of protection.[6]
