Lokalise is a Latvian service for translating sites and applications into another language. To translate content, you need to upload files to the service, after which it will automatically offer the translation of each phrase into several languages. Files can be downloaded manually or synchronized with GitHub and GitLab. Users can edit text in the Lokalise interface, leave comments and mark other people, set tasks and track their performance.

The startup was founded by the creator of the Latvian portal Inbox lv. Nick Ustinov and former co-owner of the Megogo service Peter Antropov, who also worked as a financial director in the Odnoklassniki social network.

History

2021: Attracting $50 million investment

On December 14, 2021, Lokalise, a service for translating applications and sites into different languages, announced the attraction of $50 million in investments as part of the Series B round, which was headed by the CRV fund. Creandum, Dawn Capital, Chalfen Ventures, 3VC, S16VC and a number of business angels also took part in the deal.

The startup team intends to spend the funds raised on expanding the staff, developing products and attracting new partners.

By December 2021, Lokalise has over 2,500 customers, including Revolut, Arduino, Hyundai, Tesco.

According to Crunchbase, by mid-December 2021, the total amount of funds raised by Lokalise is $56 million. Compared to the previous round of financing, which took place in September 2020, the company's annual recurring revenue more than tripled, Lokalise reported without indicating absolute values.

According to Lokalise co-founder Nick Ustinov, localization and translation of the text from one language to another are obvious growth points that most companies ignore for too long. Thanks to the new investments, the startup will be able to help more companies and convey to them the need to translate its products into different languages ​ ​ from the very first day, he added.[1]

2020: Attraction of 5 million euros

In September 2020, it became known that Lokalise attracted about 5 million euros in investments. The founder of the Russian Miro collaboration service Andrei Husid, Houzz investor Mike Chalfen, Intercom co-founder Des Trainor and others invested in the startup.

What time investors rated Lokalise according to the results of the round of financing is unknown. It is noted that we are talking about one of the largest primary investments in the Latvian startup in history.

You can use Lokalise to deliver dynamic content to an application using the SDK and API, or to upload files to storage. Small companies without a translation team, Lokalise offers Google Translate or professional translation services. Lokalise has about 1.5 thousand customers, including Revolut, Yelp, Virgin Mobile and Notion (by the beginning of September 2020).
