Launch of the first unmanned transport police boat
The transport police, together Moscow Department of Transport with, launched the first keyless boat to patrol the Moskva River. Testing of innovative water transport began in May 2025 at the South River Station of the capital, said official representative MINISTRY OF INTERNAL AFFAIRS Russia Irina Volk.
According to TASS, the new unmanned boat will be used by the transport police of the Central Federal District to monitor river waters. Irina Volk noted that this novelty reflects the trend towards the digitalization of law enforcement and the development of "smart" urban infrastructures.
The development of software for an innovative boat is carried out by employees of Moscow transport. Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry Maxim Liksutov said that the unmanned boat is already equipped with the necessary equipment. According to him, experts are refining the software so that the new transport moves along a given trajectory, defines a closed perimeter and effectively bypasses obstacles.
Liksutov stressed that on behalf of Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, unique unmanned technologies are being introduced in the capital's transport, which will serve as useful innovations for law enforcement agencies.
The boat operates in semi-automatic mode: the cameras installed on it record potential violations, but the final decision is made by the analyst operator. This approach avoids errors and refines algorithms before full implementation of the technology.
The keyless boat is characterized by partial autonomy, modern equipment and the possibility of all-weather operation of the equipment. It will become part of the safety control system on Moscow waterways. Automatic detection of violations will significantly reduce the burden on transport police officers.[1]
