History
2022: Walmart bought Memomi
On June 29, 2022, Walmart bought the developer of the Memomi virtual eyewear fitting service. The company did not disclose the value of the transaction.
Although Memomi's website says that the technology can be used in other categories of products besides optics, including beauty, fashion, accessories, shoes and more. The company declined to comment on its future plans to use the service in these areas. Instead, the retailer said Walmart is only focused on harnessing Memomi's capabilities in virtual optics fitting.
In acquiring Memomi, a Walmart spokesman said that interest was shown in both technology and the team. Memomi co-founders Salvador Nissi Wilczowski and Ofer Saban will join Walmart, as will other team members, when the deal officially closes before the end of July 2022, after regulatory approval. While the founders' new official positions are not yet known, Memomi's team will join Walmart's Global Tech team.
