History

1898 - 1902

The history of PepsiCo company began in the 19th century. In August, 1898 Caleb Bradham, the owner of small drugstore in New Bern, the State of North Carolina, thought up the recipe of the refreshing drink from nuts of Coca and vanilla which received the name "Pepsi Cola". 1956

By 1956 Pepsi is on sale worldwide and is produced at 149 plants in 61 countries.

1961

In 1961 the market was entered by Frito-Lay company. It was created as a result of consolidation of two known companies: Fritos created by Elmer Doolin in 1932, and Lay’s, founded by Herman V. Leyem (Herman W. Lay) in 1938. Fritos produced popular corn chips, and Lay’s specialized — in potato.

1965 - 1970

Historical merge of The Pepsi Cola Company and producer of salty snack Frito-Lay took place in 1965 — the modern company PepsiCo so was born. The key role in merge of two companies was played at that time by the vice president of the company Don (Donald) Kendall who, by the way, possesses the idea of deployment of business of the company in the USSR. In 1970 the sales volume of PepsiCo company passed a mark of 1 billion dollars.

1986

By 1986 the third largest producer of soft drinks — International 7UP, and then and Mug Root Beer company was attached to corporation.

1998

In 1998 PepsiCo purchased the producer of natural Tropicana juice, largest in the USA, and in 2001 — issuer of porridges and flakes of Quaker Oats together with its division on production of sports Gatorade drinks.

2010

In 2010 the largest bottlers were attached to the company (Pepsi Bottling Group and Pepsi Americas) that allowed PepsiCo to become the second in value company in the world producing food and drinks.

2008 - 2011

Acquisition in 2008 Lebedyansky companies and purchase in 2011 of the Wimm-Bill-Dann company specializing in juice, dairy products and baby food was made by PepsiCo the leader in production of food and drinks in Russia and the CIS.

Today revenue of PepsiCo company makes about 65 billion dollars a year. The company turns out a wide range of products, including 22 trademarks, annual retail sales of each of which exceed one billion dollars. The company is provided in 200 countries of the world, in it about 300 thousand people work.

PepsiCo which history began with production of sweet carbonated drinks expands the product portfolio at the expense of food and drinks, useful to health, today.
