2020: SUSE purchased Rancher Labs for $600-700 million
On July 8, 2020 SUSE officially announced Rancher Labs acquisition. The companies did not begin to set the transaction price. CNBC with reference to the sources reports that it is about the amount in the range of $600-700 million.
In a conversation with Ursheet Parikh Urshit TV channel, the representative of Mayfield Fund investment fund (the partner of Rancher Labs), told that negotiations began spring of 2020. In addition to SUSE, interest in purchase of Rancher Labs showed some other the companies, including Zoom from which "there were many calls", Parikh reported.

Sheng Liang did not begin to comment on a financial component of the transaction with SUSE and only noted that the company after attraction of $95 million investments spent only a third of this amount. Rancher was very profitable company, he said.
The head of Rancher considers that technologies of the company will become even more popular in the corporate sector thanks to SUSE, and the emphasis on Kubernetes was placed by Rancher commercially attractive startup.
In addition to actually management system for the containers Rancher Labs works on the container optimized OS known as RancherOS. Normal complete Linux distribution kit of general purpose has the packets and functions unnecessary during the work with containers and therefore there is a requirement in container optimized by Linux. In addition, optimized for containers OS can improve security, minimizing a zone of the potential attack, the producer claims.[1]
