SPIRIT Navigation is a company that was part of the SPIRIT group of companies. She was engaged in solving telecommunications and navigation problems (in particular, in the development of a hybrid navigation receiver for seamless positioning and the use of geographic information services indoors and in the open air as part of a project at the Skolkovo Innovation Center).
History
2018: Termination
In 2018, SPIRIT-Navigation ceased operations.
2013: SPIRIT Navigation receives $1 million Skolkovo grant
In February 2013, SPIRIT-Navigation announced the receipt of a $1 million grant from the Skolkovo Foundation for the development of a hybrid navigation receiver capable of continuously and accurately determining the coordinates of an indoor positioning mobile device. Co-investor Skolkovo was SPIRIT, which invested more than $300,000 in the project.
The development of a hybrid navigation receiver meets global trends, which indicate an exponential increase in demand for accurate determination of the location of a mobile device inside the premises, where Glonass and GPS satellite signals are not received. According to statistics, more than 75% of all search map queries of users of mobile devices are formed indoors. However, there are no ready and reliable indoor positioning products yet.
Numerous attempts to solve this critical problem still require either significant infrastructure investments or crowdsourcing, when user devices themselves become integral elements of the infrastructure. Positioning by WiFi or Cell ID does not give practically useful inside accuracy (200 meters, instead of the necessary 2 meters). Products that are based on software methods to improve positioning accuracy have not left the prototyping stage are not yet reliable and accurate.
SPIRIT Navigation has been engaged in Glonass-GPS since 1995, has been developing algorithms for indoor positioning since 2009 and has accumulated significant scientific and technical potential for the implementation of this project. One of the important advantages of developing SPIRIT-Navigation is the new hybrid receiver architecture and joint positioning data processing from a set of standard smartphone sensors .
The hybrid navigation receiver is designed to be used in shopping centers to search for goods to buyers, search for works of art in museums, determine the optimal routes for people and cargo at airports, train stations and logistics complexes.
2012: Certificate of a member of the Skolkovo Innovation Center
SPIRIT Navigation, part of the SPIRIT group of companies, received in June 2012 a certificate of a member of the Skolkovo Innovation Center in the Space Technologies and Telecommunications cluster. The residents of this cluster are engaged in space projects telecommunication and technology development, thereby affecting many areas of activity - from space tourism and satellite navigation to the development of advanced communication systems. SPIRIT Navigation joined the Skolkovo project with its development - a hybrid navigation receiver - GLONASSGPS for positioning and using indoor geographic information services.
Thanks to the introduction of the hybrid SPIRIT receiver, mobile device owners will be able to use services based on accurate geo-referencing of users inside buildings and premises (in museums, shopping centers, administrative buildings, airports, underground parking lots, etc.). The high sensitivity of the receiver, its multi-system nature and the use of additional sources useful for positioning data is a significant advantage and allows for stable seamless positioning on the principle of "always and everywhere."
The hybrid receiver will provide remote monitoring of transport in difficult conditions (in closed and underground parkings, urban and natural canyons, mountains), as well as solve the problem of navigation in conditions of industrial and specially set interference.
The status of a member of Skolkovo is assigned by decision of the Investment Committee of the Skolkovo Fund for a period of 10 years. Before arranging the infrastructure of the Skolkovo Innovation Center (2014), project participants can conduct research activities throughout Russia, while being able to use all the preferences they rely on.
The cluster "Space Technologies and Telecommunications" provides for the search, attraction and selection of potential subjects of the innovative process in the field of creation and targeted operation of space assets and diversification of the capabilities of the rocket and space industry, supports their interaction and creates conditions for the formation of a full cycle of the innovative process. SPIRIT Navigation is being developed in one of the priority areas of Cosmos. In addition, cluster members implement projects in the field of space technology and telecommunications, working in the areas of "Space-Earth" (using the capabilities of space tools for the provision of services and solving applications) and "Earth-Space" (creating new space tools and diversifying enterprises of the rocket and space industry). Currently, the cluster includes 33 innovative projects of Russian companies.
